There is nothing like an artist's home to give you a better appreciation of their art, style, philosophy and way of life. The birds' nest like dwelling with nest or room after room shows the artist's insatiable urge to produce or create. Informal and accessible, the artist's works are open for show with only a couple behind glass. it is a highlight of Punta del Este not only for the art but for its cultural significance to the area.
We knew nothing about Carlos Paez Vilaro and are completrely ignorant about art but this was a great attraction... the house, the art and the view are all beautiful. It was about 350 pesos for us both to go in and we got there by the local bus from the Punta bus station. Ask the driver to drop you of at Casapueblo, you'll get off at a mirador and then it's a couple of km walk out to the point. Not too far if you like walking.
Sunset at Casapueblo is breathtaking. One should go with time to visit the atellier and walk arround trough the amazing construction buit by Páez Vilaro, famous artist. Nowadays it is a hotel but some areas can be visited. There is a fee to access the atellier.
The view is very beautiful and it is worth the visit! The best place in Punta to watch the sunset... but be prepared to find it a little crowded. You can either buy the museum ticket, where there is a belvedere, or you can go to their restaurant at the base and consume something. The food and the service are not really good but the view is great and the pictures possibilities are nicer than going only to the museum.
great on the outside to look at a nd photograph, but only a small amount of rooms open to the public on the inside, not too much to see....
If one has to single out the best Uruguayan attraction, Casapueblo will be the invitable winner of any ballot.Beautiful construction, full of historical content, with fantastic artistic works. The sunset ceremony with the poem by the deceased owner, heared over the sound system, became a tradition, and should not be missed. The adjourning restaurant gives you a chance of rounding up a marvelous afternoon
The house is amazing, different from anything I have seen so far. You can visit the museum, grab something to eat (quite expensive) or have a coffee while enjoying the view of the ocean. The museum part is very small, a few rooms with Carlos Vilaró art ( paintings, sculptures, etc). I liked the video about the artist art, it's in Spanish, narrated by Carlos Vilaró himself, with subtitles in English.
We went with a group on a warm summer day and managed to enjoy the house despite the many people there. The home, built over a 40-year period is beautifully appointed and looks out over the azure waters of Punta. The views are extraordinary and the home amazing. Would be nice to add some parking and perhaps a little cafe or something, but we liked it a lot.
Beautiful views and sunset from this interesing building; colorful artwork collections, memorable life story of artist and family.
If you go to Punta del Este Casapueblo is a must, it seams to be in Santorini, house of Calos Paez Viraró, great artist, you can visit Casapueblo made in the rocks, the museum also, sunset astouned......
