Dobby's is a great place for a morning or an afternoon. All of the buildings are ACTUAL buildings representing a time gone by. Not all the buildings were from the Alliance area, but they were all actual buildings used for the various shops, post office, medical building, etc. Bring your water, the day we visited it was hot and windy! Definitely worth the drive from Alliance.
Dobby's Frontier Town sits on the north edge of Alliance, NE. This non-profit organization is giving a glimpse into the past, using some buildings that have moved to the site, and some buildings built in a rustic fashion to represent the frontier life. This attraction is free to visit, but donations are certainly welcome, as donations fund the future development of the new buildings.Dobby's Frontier Town began as one man's quest to save a vanishing piece of history before it was lost. Kenneth Dobby Lee's personal journey helped save nineteen buildings from a bygone era. Caring for this town has been a family's way of life for many years, but is now being passed on to a wonderful group of volunteers who hope to preserve this era of history for many years to come.
A great labor of love and an interesting slice of frontier life. Definitely worth the stop to tour the buildings and get a taste of earlier times...their fall festival always offers a full experience with many talented people offering their skills to bring the frontier town to life!
Dobby's Frontier Town is one of the greatest attractions of Western Nebraska. Enjoy the nostalgia of days gone by. See how your ancestors and the early settlersf lived..old bldgs.restored the old town come alive...take the tours..go back in time...plan to attend theFall Festival. Sasparilla at the old saloon, watch the Blacksmith, shootouts, the Candy Snap, old store, bale house, first Negro log cabin and on and on.
This "town" consists of many old buildings that have been moved from other sites, plus some that have been constructed in old style in order to represent particular town functions (and to hold collected artifacts). It is a slow paced pace to be explored at leisure; someone volunteered to guide us, so we learned a lot, but there isn't a lot of explanatory signage. This easterner came away with an extra appreciation for the west and the settlers' ingenuity and grit.
you wil not "walk the streets of a frontier town" - you will however walk through someone's backyard and look at the homemade structures. Seriously, skip this
Dobby's Frontier Town has improved greatly since I wrote my last review. This is a project in process. Since I wrote my last review, the group in charge has finished four new buildings and has really shaped things up! They just got done having their annual Fall Festival which is truly a great treat. You will not believe the action, food, and fun that takes place. Plan a visit for next September to take in the festival. This coupled with the attractions in the area are well worth visiting!
I've heard they have made many improvements since my visit here. It is a great place to get some neat photographs. Your experience may be better than average, depending on what time of year you go and if there are any events going on at the time.
visited off season. like a little ghost town - kind of scary and melancholy. ran away screaming after seeing mannequin face in bar window.
Some old buildings and some nice antiques. It is free to visit. Like another reviewer stated, this is a frontier town sitting in the owner's backyard. I wouldn't go out of my way to see this.
