We were amazed at how quickly you can go from Oakland into this green oasis. There are trails and paved paths for walking and biking, and beautiful trees. It seems to be very popular with families on weekends.
Great hiking with family and the dog, parts of park are off leash which is great. Spectacular settings and trails. A must for nature lovers.
The best redwood forest is in Northern California, but for those only visiting San Francisco this provides an excellent introduction to their size and majesty. Truly inspiring to walk beneath these towering giants.
I suggest getting a guide or map before setting off. Early in the day is always fresh and best! Enjoy with family and friends. The best dog walk area for your Zen buddy.
Great well kept trails, dog friendly with beautiful land views. Trails can be short or long, hard or easy and provide miles of open land.
A beautiful, less crowded way to see redwoods in the area . Tall beautiful trees for gorgeous for relaxing in nature or photography opportunities.
This area, as well as the East Bay Parks offers families areas for picnics, hiking, dog friendly areas. The views of the Bay Area and surrounding hills is wonderful.
Fabulous place to go alone or in a group. Good maps, be prepared for some good hills. French trail to orchard is a super workout and shady. Don't forget your water bottle. Prince and stream - where they meet - you likely will find covered with lady bugs. They're their a couple times a year. East trail is a favorite for dog walkers - many of whom ignore their dogs so be prepared for frisky ones jumping up. Redwood trees galore - it's a peaceful retreat during the quieter week days.
You need to spend some time exploring this park. I was on my mountain bike and met a guy who showed me some illegal mountain bike trails, so in other words they were hiking only trails. I got to see a large portion of the park on my bike, I wish I had more time to explore more of the park. Great place to visit for the day, try finding the legal trails, because the hikers get angry with mountain bikers for riding where they shouldn't. I don't regret riding there because I rode one of the best ever single track trails in my life!
Fairly easy hiking on wide trails through Redwoods and Pines. Watch out for the cyclists who, at times, crowd the trails. Some nice views in spots of San Francisco and the bay.
