a weird and wonderful attraction, definitely worth a see. keep an eye on ur belongings here as it gets quite congested every hour and the punters selling their wares can get a bit irritating
In the heart of this beautiful city you will find the Astronomical Clock. Bring your zoom lens for this trip. The architecture is amazing, but you won't always be able to see it close enough to truly appreciate it. The only reason that I do not give it 5 stars, the square gets a little seedy after dark. Be mindful of your surrounding. If you go to Prague and don't see the clock, it would be hard to say you went to Prague.
The clock is at the main square and incorporated in the town hall building. Is an amazing looking clock with time, date, months, horoscope etc. It cannot be missed while in Olomouc.
Historic and full with thousands of tourists. We stayed in Best Western City Center and the place is within a walking distance from the hotel.
It was nice but alot of people. It's for everyone! It is nice in winter! It has a show every 12:00 P.M.
Found it even better than the one in Prague. It is lower and the moving figures are workers, not saints.Sadly it only chimes at 12noon each day but, it is well worth a visit!
I have seen both the astronomical clocks in Czech Republic (one at Prague Old Town and this one at the Olomouc Town Hall) and i like the Prague version more. However the astronomical clock in Olomouc is quite unique as well with it's communist style (showing different working classes during the communist era) after the remodeling in 1950s. Considering that the giant clock has survived from the damage in the late eighties, i would still recommend a visit to this landmark as well. When i was here in end of Nov, a tall Christmas tree was erected in front of the clock. The photos captured during the time has both the giant clock and the tall Christmas tree with different colors of lights turned on at night are indeed quite nice really.
The clock was cool to see. But he tower tour was great best view of the city by far. A little packed with people but nice!
This is a very nice exhibit of socialist art, definitely worth to see as one of the remaining exhibits of the socialist art.
One of two astronomical clocks in Prague, this one was rebuilt by the Soviets in the1950's in Soviet heroic style, with all the figures being form the proletariat. Pay attention to the clock showing each saint's day, and the ones showing which stars are visible each night.
