This stream has long been a "go to" destination for trout fishing, as well as being scenic. The river winds through portions of Vermont and New York....be sure you have the appropriate fishing licenses. Great day trip...take a picnic lunch and a blanket and find a good spot.
For several years we have done kyaking on the Battenkill at fall foliage time. We rent kayaks at Battenkill Canoe Ltd. Great experience!
I liked the Battenkill Canoe livery their lessons and then their group tour of rivers in Vermont Inn to Inn. Only disappointment is that canoe trips can be "rained out." This happened one day.
If you know about it you know. If you have never fished it, you should and be prepared with a large dose of humility and a real learning curve.
Spent a couple of hours tubing down the Battenkill River. We put in up the road and then floated down across the NY border to get out of a very popular spot.
Lovely to sit by, or take a canoe trip downstream from Batten Kill Canoe in Sunderland, VT. They will drop you off upstream and pick you up as far south-west as Shushan, New York for a reasonable fee. Better than paddling back up stream. They will also rent you a canoe. Lots of nature walks around the river in the same area, too. The Batten Kill is a fly-fisherman's dream river, though it is catch-and-release.
Easy, fun, friendly. Great way to spend a half or a whole day. Different kinds of routes for different skill / adventure levels
what an experience world class Ben Gill sports scores picture of mind either a tubing adventure were a kayak and let you see the sights from the creek instead of the road and what is real to see the covered bridges insights but so few people do see. definitely worth the trip
This is a beautiful river that is being destroyed by the out of towners.....the tubing is great and there are a couple of canoe rental places in Cambridge, NY and one in Arlington, VT....please remember that this is a pristine river and should remain that way.....no alcohol and what you carry in, please carry out!
We took 2 hours to go down the riverIt was nice but the 2 hours trip did not go near any what I would call scenic areaThere are a lot of dead trees in the riverIt is also pretty hard to know exactly ( even approximately ) where you are and how long you still have to paddle to destinationNice kayaking but I expected a little more looking at the previous reviews
