Not many have the privilege to travel to Pondicherry from other nations let alone travel here with a Brahman. I am fortunate. Come here for meditation. Place your forehead on the marble of the resting place of Aurobindo. All I can say is that it is a game changer. Also visit the most sacred temple of Genesh and pay attention to the begging elephant outside as well. This place changed my life forever!
I was initially expecting a huge place, although the mothers abode is a small, very quite place with beautiful flowers all around. Although the Ashram itself is spread over a big area. Unfortunately, they did not allow anyone to take photos, so i have only one clicked from outside. There are a few shops selling a lot of stuff around the actual ashram, and bough several awesome incense sticks, fragrance oils, etc. However, you need to ask about these stores the first time you go. I am going back to Pondi for sure for a longer stay.
Visited the Ashram a few months back to pay my homage to the Mother and Sri Aurobindo. Took my parents along.....after all these spiritual leaders were right next to my parents in my adulation. The place indeed has a calming infulence. My aging mother who has difficulty with walking just sat down for a while on an empty chair....and came rushing a volunteer asking her not to sit..when questioned why an old person cannot rest for a while on a chair.....he said there are no answers to such a Why..Kept thinking about it. Felt foolish instances like this kill the spiritual beauty of a place like the Sri Aurobindo Ashram
People come here to pay tribute and meditate or buy books. You can see lot of foreigners meditating here. It is quite place and speaking is prohibited. You need to take off your shoes before entry and free shoe deposit center is located opposite to the entry gate
Not much to see in there, however the place is special for its garden, meditation place, quietness in the middle of the busy Pondicherry.
not very much to see, but the garden, a calm and peaceful environment, a silent break make this place a must visit.
we visited this place in morning of 25.2.2015. This is samadhi place of Sri Aurobindo where devotee offer their prayer. There is pin drop silent in Ashram. A small place but faithful for followers of Sri Aurobindo.
Even if you are not familiar with, nor adept of meditation, it is interesting to take off your shoes, switch off your camera or phone, and go into this place. There is not much to see, you enter a beautifully flowered garden path to reach the central point of the building, a meditation place under a large tree and around a flower pattern. Silence is to be respected, and that gives some depth to the visit. You can go around the did not get flower bed, sit for meditation or writing. Last step is the library, where you can buy one of the numerous books written by Sri Aurobindo. I must say I did not know that much.I did not get convinced, but found it great. It took less than 20 minutes.
We visited the one where they have the Samadhi. They don't let you sit near it nor do they let you linger around. There is an impressive display of flowers near the Samadhi and a book-shop inside the building.Too much of interference by the authorities/trustees/volunteers/representatives! That's about it!!
