This rose garden is a diamond in the rough. It has tons of rose varietals and is fun to wander through. The structures are falling apart though and it really needs some TLC. However, this is one of my favorite stopping points in Berkeley - away from the crowds, quiet, peaceful, surrounded by beautiful flowers.
This smaller rose garden is very walkable, with paths among many varieties of roses, along with benches to rest and to enjoy the view. The view is expansive: over the city of Berkeley, and across the Bay to San Francisco, Marin County and beyond. This is a nice place to bring a visitor to Berkeley, to showcase a neighborhood community spot that is beautiful, free and natural.
I have visited the rose garden many times. It is on a hillside. Its row after row of roses that is fun to explore. It has over 3000 rose bushes. It is best in the spring when roses are in bloom, but any time of year it is nice to visit. The sunsets from here are quite nice.
This rose garden is situated on a hill overlooking the city of Berkeley and the bay. Great views from the top. The garden itself is undergoing some improvements, which are needed. There's a nice selection of roses, but the paths are uneven and eroding and some parts of the garden are inaccessible. The sunsets, viewed from the street entrance, are amazing.
From here you have a great view of San Francisco as well as beautiful flowers. This is also a great place to go for a run. Though the hilly terrain is challenging, it is worth the view.
The best time to visit the Berkeley Rose Garden is in May when the roses are in full bloom. So many varities ~ so much beauty ~ and a great view of the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge. I love to take a picnic lunch and sit with a good book.
This place has the most amazing variety of roses and is good to check out for garden ideas. Wish I could bring my small dog with me. Also, don't think it's wheelchair accessible.
We like to go to this Park and sit and read. It's especially nice when the roses are blooming. Sit up high and enjoy the view.
I played in the rose garden as a child, took tennis lessons at the garden as a teen, and return to the garden every year when I visit as an adult. The rose garden is well tended and has a big variety of roses growing in semi-circular beds between old stone walls. It is especially known as a place to watch the sunset and take in the view across the bay. I recommend the Berkeley Rose Garden to anyone wanting to walk through a lovely, garden with amazing views, at no cost!
This lovely garden is tucked into a neighborhood that you might happen upon out walking. There are numerous varieties of roses, many of which are identified. With the extreme water issues, the bushes are not robust. It is not finely manicured and could use a little TLC and more volunteers. The terraced effect and art add to its visual appeal. It is a rose garden oasis for Berkeley residents, who don't have one of their own. i
