We had some time to kill before our dinner reservations, so we drove a mile off the highway and found this beautiful, quaint, historic district. The was the first state capital of Indiana, with the original capital building now serving as a museum. Well worth the trip!
What a great experience. The visitor's center lady that helped me and my wife locate places and recommended great places to eat was so personable.Plenty of great information there, Also the gift shop in the old church was awesome. We spoke with the man there for 45 minutes learning alot about the surrounding area and the great books they had for sale. I can hardly wait to bring my kids by for a visit with all these great people.
Step off the beaten path and see the first capital of Indiana. The history is rich with intrigue and mystery. The square in historic Corydon is always busy with something going on. Restaurants, shops, library, salons and even a Bed and Breakfast all within walking distance. Even in fall and winter the square is bustling with activities. What a great place to stay and have an adventure.
The history is there, but the displays are not as interesting as we have seen other places. The tours are disorganized and sort of "random". The only saving grace was an interesting, knowledgeable tour guide at the Hendricks Home. It feels like a elementary field trip sort of destination.
There is not alot to the site but the buildings are cool. It would be better to stop and see when its not cold and raining. Corydon was Indiana's first capital before being moved to Indianapolis.
Corydon is just a shadow of its former self, but it's interesting. We were there during one of the first warm evenings in 2014 and it was fun to walk around and read the historic markers. There were no tours or guides around, but still a good (short) visit. If you want to know more about the early history of Indiana and the US, stop and walk a bit around the town.
If you're passing through, doing some caving, exploring the forest for the elusive Hoosier beast (a cross between Sasquatch and Cupacobra I'm told), then Corydon is a good place to relax for a bit, grab a bite to eat, and learn some history. While we were there, we visited the charming town park, read up on the history, went shopping at the thrift store, and ate some good Italian food.
Corydon is a quaint historic town. The people who work at and give the tours at the historic site are knowledgeable and friendly. They share their knowledge with interesting stories. Once here you will want to visit the many other attractions offered in Harrison County.
Even if you aren't a history buff, you will enjoy walking around this Indiana Historic area. There is signage everywhere explaining the buildings and events that took place. The woman at the Visitor's Center was extremely friendly and helpful.
not much in the way of a attaraction unless the renactors are there building closed most of the time grounds are clean but not much to see
