I went on a tour of the Southern States in July/August and I have to say that this boat trip was the highlight for me. A funny and good humoured guide, great weather, plenty of crocodiles, turtles, beautiful birds and lush vegatation. Well worth a visit!
Our friend suggested this tour and what an amazing choice. You get to see the wilderness with the locals who are so passionate about their surroundings. Now don't be mistaken with an alligator tour. This isn't it. It's about the wildlife and nature in general. If in the right season you are likely to see plenty of alligators but don't expect to see them in February or March. It's too cold. Come toward end of spring and summer time. Birds such as pelican for example maybe around. Most importantly you will learn a lot about the ecosystem which is in danger of disappearing by the way. Now if you really want to learn something then take the small speed boats (up to 6 people ). You'll get a much more in depth overview.
When I think "swamp," I don't think about beauty. We took the Louisiana Swamp Tour this past week, and it truly exceeded my expectations. There is a choice of a large or small airboat, and we selected the small one, a 6-seater. Our tour guide, Justin, was fantastic. He grew up in the area, and knew every inch of our surroundings. He took us through beautiful waters with gorgeous trees and flowers, and he would stop the boat here and there to explain where we were and what we were seeing. He told us we may or may not see alligators, but we surely did. We saw several of them. Justin stopped the boat so that we could get a good look and some photos - it was wonderful. We could tell that Justin loves the area, and he had a great way about him, sharing funny personal stories about his family all through the tour. This tour was so much more than I expected, and I highly recommend it. Absolutely excellent.
Really worthwhile taking this trip to see small alligators, herons, turtles and raccoons in their natural habitat. Our guide was A Cajun guy by the name of Noah, proper hillbilly with so much knowledge. He passed around a small gator for people to handle with care, it's jaws were taped shut which was a blessing. Noah played a Cajun cd everyone on the boat was foot tapping. A gift shop available at the site, cold snacks on offer also. Unsuitable for small children.
A group of us went on this tour and we took the small airboat. It was one of my favorite things we did on out trip. Rocky was our captain and he was amazing. He let us hold a baby gator and was so informative. The swamps were awesome and the boat ride was smooth and felt great in the hot weather. Great for any age. And don't forget your camera!!! Thanks Rocky for a great tour.
I booked to go on their 6 person airboat for a Sunday at 3 in late Nov. they phoned back saying it was getting to late and suggested earlier, Bus pick up from hotel at 8am on Dec. 1 and turned out perfect. A family of 4, myself and guide, either Justin or Rocky(sorry guys) set out for close to 2 hours of fun, spotting a 16-18 foot alligator, some smaller ones, birds, scenery and some fun spins on the airboat. Liked so much I bought the tshirt, lol. I had wanted to do an airboat tour for a long time and did not disappoint, will do again if I am somewhere I can.
The fact that you get to ride on an air-boat had me sold. They give you protection for your ears because it's so loud. The tour guide was excellent and entertaining. We actually walked away with a lot of knowledge and a better understanding of the area and the environment. It was so fun I didn't realize how much I had learned until telling others about it later. The bayou was beautiful and we got to hold an alligator!
Wifey booked this as a combo to the Oak Alley Plantation tour on first floor of Hilton Riverside, via Greyline tours! She loved the swamp tour the most. Got to see cemeteries, swamp homes, and alligators playing, along with all kinds of wildlife and plants! Wifey got to hold a baby gator! Good deal and safe tour!
My wife booked the Airboat tour, so i had no idea what to expect. Bus picked us up at our hotel and took us for a thirty minute ride out to the swamp. Our guide Justin grew up on the swamp and knows exactly where to go and handles the airboat like a pro. He is extremely knowledgeable and a great guide. We had a great time, saw lots of gators and other wildlife and I was surprised at how pretty this swamp is.
We did the small airboat tour with hotel pick up; our pick up/return driver was Chris and he was great! Not only did he give us a nice tour of the surrounding areas but he did it with humor! When we were ready for the airboat tour we had Captain Justin. He was awesome! Took us to an area where we saw 6 alligators then into the bayou where we sat in the shade and he told us about various Cajun customs and his love of Louisiana. We had a great time and would do it again.Thank you!
