Kennekuk County Park22296-A Henning RoadDanville, IL 61834Telephone: [--]Fax: [--][--]Vermilion County is blessed with numerous county parks, but Kennekuk is my favorite. Set on 3,000 acres and very close to the Middle Fork National Scenic River, Middle Fork State Wildlife Area and Kickapoo State Park, Kennekuk is close to Danville and Champaign but just far enough away to feel like you've "escaped." There are plenty of recreational opportunities here, including Lake Mingo, a 170-acre lake with boat docks; camping; hiking trails; fishing; softball fields, and hunting. One unique feature is the Bunker Hill Historic Area that offers a collection of historic buildings that are both native to the site and others that have been saved from demolition and relocated to the park; the buildings are open during various times of the year for tours and are a popular stop during Christmas for their light displays. Vermilion Chapel, original to the site, was built in 1886 and is a popular site for weddings. Other buildings include Red Oak School, a one-room schoolhouse that was built ca. 1917 and relocated to the park; Neff Store, a ca. 1912 grocery store; Laury Barn; Bismarck Train Depot; and the O'Leary's Dining Car, a ca. 1947 railroad dining car. Overall, an enjoyable day getaway.
We got married here in 2011 and go back all the time. Its a beautiful place to take pictures and spend time with family. Very safe!
We were there for the "Burgers and Fun" to listen to the Wright Brothers! It was a beautiful park - we just were there for the event and did not camp or drive around at all.
Nice trails for hiking or running. Wide open spaces and a restored village. Has small lake for fishing and river borders one side.
Not just a county park, you will love to explore this forest wonderland by car, bike or on foot. The Nature Museum is very educational and interesting for kids of all ages.
Kennekuk County Park has many different types of activities. There is something for everyone. It has hiking trails, running paths, playgrounds, pavilions and an old village. If you wish to reserve a particular space there is small fee but often groups just find an open area of picnic tables. There are sections of the park where you can find the natural prairie grasses of Illinois growing wild and recently a sidewalk trail was created that will allow wheelchairs accessibility to certain areas.
Had a wonderful family reunion at the Laury Barn. Spacious, lots of tables and chairs available. Small kitchen area with 2 refrigerators!! Upstairs area for additional seating/kids area. Clean restrooms. Large grassy fields to play many games. Had a fantastic time. Thank you!!!
Beautiful park with lots of trails and an old time village. Several nice pavilions for rental and ponds.
It's a great place for everyone. We go frequently. Attend Civil war days , we're they had reenactment between north and The South. I have attended school outings with my nephew and neices. Large picnic areas. They have what is called the red barn and a country church that had been moved their, several weddings have been held there. Also there is a fishing docks there. I suggest any one to visit.
