Seen many documentaries on the Bloody Sunday massacre so i found this memorial very moving seeing the names and ages of the people killed on what was a peaceful demonstration
We were so touched by the story and the memorial. Thankful to the city of Derry for honoring this important part of history
Reading the names of the young men who died on Bloody Sunday made for contemplation of how young they were, and how innocent. It was a very sad experience.
we did the Free Derry tour from Glenfada Park which is almost across the road from the memorial. The tour finished here. I would recommend the tour as well.
Once again, a must for all visitors to Derry/Londonderry, no matter what your religion or culture. An open mind is required on this historic tragedy and a balanced attitude. Wrongs committed on all sides, and none can lay claim innocence. Its all about lessons learnt so as not to repeat history
Visited as part of a walking tour. Having heard all about The Troubles along the way, ending up at the memorial was a moving experience. The memorial itself is innocuous. It may not necessarily interest the average tourist but if you're visiting Ireland for the first time and happen to be in Derry, worth going by.
even knowing very little about the civil rights era in Derry, only learning most of what i know about it that day, the memorial made me weep. literally sit down and weep. i love that this city keeps its history alive and honours those who fought to make it fair. it is so moving.
This is an essential part of the Free Derry area. See my related reviews of the Free Derry Corner, Museum and the Murals.
While on a bus tour of Derry we were given the history of the "Troubles" in Northern Ireland. The driver took us by the place where Bloody Sunday transpired and related the story behind this tragic event. Freedom is costly and this memorial gives testimony to that.
Sad to see the reality of how many young people were killed needlessly. Too many 17 year olds died. Heartfelt and overwhelming to stand where Bloody Sunday took place.
