I was lucky enough to be able to stay at the Wave Crest condos that were right next to Seagrove Park. It was so nice to walk through the paths and see all of the people picnicing, relaxing, and enjoying the beautiful view. The soft grass was a welcome relief from all of the sand, and it was plain to see that this is a very popular park for both visitors and the local people in Del Mar.
Only in California could you find such an inviting park environment, full of greenery, sunshine, the smell of the ocean, a wide expanse of green grass and all this in mid December. Great views of the Pacific below and a train that passes by below practically at your feet.
Calm and relaxing place with a nice view over the beach. Get your coffee and sit down during the morning is a great start.
An excellent place to enjoy sand, surf, and picnic like grounds with real grass. The only downside is the $ 15.00 charge for two hour parking. Still it is a beautiful spot.
The trees, the site above the beach in Old Del Mar, the trains, the benches and picnic tables, the grassy sloping lawn are all so good! Sometimes congested with wedding parties but that's kind of fun to watch also. You may have to park blocks away or pay at the fee lot, but this area is made for walking at any time of day.
And a great place to come witness a sunset or have a picnic. A must see when in Del Mar. Simply said.
I love walking around in Del Mar and stopping in at the Seagrove Park. You're up above the white sand and gently rolling waves - it's awe-inspiring. I just love the tranquility of sitting on a bench and looking out at the ocean here. I only wish it was a larger park but the views definitely make up for it!
We chose this spot for a picnic, then discovered that the lower park had picnic tables, while this one didn't. A seagull was watching for crumbs, and a few dogs came by hoping or some, too. The most unexpected animal was a squirrel, who seemed very tame and was hungrily devouring juicy leaves. As we watched, we also saw whale spouts in the distance.
The best view in all of Del Mar is right here from this little parks. Both Seagrove Park and it's breathtaking view of the Pacific are 100% free.
This park has a great mix of children's play area, grass for propane BBQ's and sandy beach with ocean breeze and waves. We enjoyed it all! Brought our dinner for an evening picnic and stayed to play in the sand. Great dining options abound nearby: Jakes, Poseidon, Sbicca to name a few. Take it from a local, you won't regret visiting this needle in a haystack.
