A great revived area on Detroit's East side (hit hard in 68 by Race riots) Just accross from the Canadian Border. Lots of GREAT really great Mexican Food, and stores ,and Bakerys . You will want to stop in Mexican town EVERY Time you pass Detroit!!Safe too!!
My wife heard about Mexicantown so we thought that we'd check it out. Security is a concern in Detroit, obviously, but was relieved to see that the parking lots were filled with upscale autos and patrolled by private security guards. We didn't have a reservation on a Saturday night but they took us in. The service was fast and kind. The food was fresh and prompt, and the drinks were cold. The bill was $52 for the four of us. After dinner we took a walk up the street to a bakery for a pastry. We will definitely be visiting Mexicantown again, soon.
The rehearsal dinner was held here. I don't understand why with a reservation booked with the amount of people that we had 3 tables, three servers, and 3 bills?
Lots of Mexican restaurants. Most of them are very very average. The only thing that I would go back for is the Mexican Bakery. It is excellent. Quite an array of breads ranging from sweet to table bread. The shops are quaint and if you're looking for a typical Mexican gift (jewelry, souvenirs) you will definitely find them here.
Traveling in and out of Mexicantown in Detroit was a pleasant surprise. I had the opportunity to eat at three restaurants and was impressed with each one. The streets are tight and parking is not great but it's worth it. I went there for lunch...doesn't look like a spot I'd want to walk the streets of at night.
As where greeektowns sign attract you in, mexicantowns should read " enter at your own risk " there trying there best, and most of the food is good... But the area is sketchy lets be honest ..Go in with the right mind set and you'll be just fine.. But don't think your entering some vibrant oasis of city blocks.
went to get tamales to go but will stay for lunch or dinner next time food has to be great many people in and out of all the places will eat and still get 2 dozen to go next time
Many great places to eat around. Mexican village, Armandos, or Zochomilcos. Great prices, Great food, Authentic flavors a real value not to be expected in Detroit
Detroiters and suburbanites are lucky to have this great place to enjoy first class Mexican cuisine. There are several wonderful restaurants to chose from. One time, we went to three different ones to just try a taco at each one! ALL were great and we had a ball!
We went for dinner before the red wings game and 6 healthy guys split two flaming fajitas... They were amazing and so much food we couldn't finish them! The manager Lisa called us a number of cabs to get to the game and after waiting for a half hour or so with no luck, the owner Frank and the manager (Lisa) actually jumped in their own cars and drive us to the game. Above and beyond on so many levels! You guys are awesome, we will be back.
