My sister and I had never crocheted before but that was not a problem as the ladies teaching us were very patient, went through each stage loop by loop, made it an very enjoyable experience. The venue for learning is very comfortable, light and a great atmosphere with all the "Woolley animals" and the cream tea was the perfect treat to complete the morning. Just to say that we missed the Alpaca walk as we arrived late, but all the others in the group enjoyed meeting them. This was a thoroughly enjoyable Friday morning.
I had visited the cafe before and therefore booked on this workshop with my friend who is an avid knitter. I had a little knowledge of crochet but this workshop has really spurred me on to improve my skills. I would never have believed that I could crochet a loop stitch by the end of the workshop but I can and am still doing it! Would have loved longer than two hours as it flew by and also a little more personal support but overall very good indeed. Crochet instructors were very friendly and put us at complete ease. Cakes were wonderful!!! Will definitely be back another day.
This attraction is well worth a visit, for all ages too. With over 200 Alpacas at stud, a retail outlet that specialises in knitting and crocheting and a coffee shop / tea rooms with home made cakes what more could you want? You can even book yourself into a workshop and learn to knit or crochet or simply go and have a browse. It's a lovely place in gorgeous countryside even the kids will love it! We recommend the home made soup and sandwiches but the cakes are great too.
Wellies on, group ready, off we go. Walking round the fields in anticipation of being up close and personal to those gorgeous animals was great. Gentle walk, complete with loads of information on alpacas, and we arrived at the weaner field. Through the gate and these 'nosy' animals came right up to us to see what we were! More info on colours and types of wool added to the delight. Then on to the adults - who were also curious to see us. Great views, great photos and even more info. Back to the café for a warm scone complete with jam and cream and then a beginners crochet lesson. Not to be forgotten and will certainly go again. Recommend highly.
The afternoon spent walking around the farm and getting up close to the weaner alpacas was great, a brilliant afternoon with a lovely cream tea and crochet taster to finish off. Would recommend and would definitely go again :)
No razzamatazz. No bells and whistles. Just simple, casual enjoyment. A gentle wander around the paddocks looking at the alpacas (and the amazing view across Draycote Water. A look around the shop to chat with the very knowledgeable staff about wool and products and then an excellent coffee (and home-made cake if you're up to it)while you relax in the comfy chairs. Well worth the effort to get there and experience something just a little bit different.
We met here for coffee with family and loved it. Edward's menagerie are brilliant and I am already crocheting my second animal. On my first visit I signed up to a course which was really informative and with a large pot of tea and cake was a great afternoon. The restaurant offers a sensibility priced menu you can enjoy after a muddy walk around the farm. Will be visiting again and joining the Thursday knit and knatter soon .
The trek through the wintry mud was soon forgotten once in the field amongst inquisitive young alpacas. Our guide, Caroline was knowledgeable and keen to answer questions. The alpacas were also keen to know more about us - a great close up experience of gentle and beautiful animals. On our return to the studio, a delicious cream tea awaited us. Once refreshed, we were taught how to crochet small animals. Memories of crochet from my childhood came flooding back. The shop was inspirational, full of high quality, natural alpaca and wool yarns as well as garments and alpaca gifts. Friendly, well informed staff who clearly enjoyed their work. Definitely a place to visit again!
Sssh don't tell everyone but the cafe here is fabulous and the cream tea is delicious. Great atmosphere to sit and chill, relax and chat with a friend and the alpacas are really cute if you wander outside to see them!
What a lovely few hours we had. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The walk was about 50 minutes with some small inclines here and there but being with the alpacas was a joy. They really are beautiful and our guide was knowledgeable about them.Cream tea was OK. Scones were delicious but the tea was cold. The ladies who demonstrated the crochet were patient and very helpful. Lovely café - can't wait to take my friends there.A thoroughly enjoyable experience (except for the tea).
