This was part of a package together with dinner at Wayne Gretzky's right next door. The improv show "Rebel without a Cosmos." started at 7:30pm. We viewed the show upstairs in very cramped quarters. The staff were friendly enough although our neighbours were told to remove food they had brought in even though prices for food and drinks provided there were not excessive. The show was good, lots of laugh but at times moved a little slowly for my taste. Still a great atmosphere and kudos to all the stage performers...
We booked an early show and dinner at Wayne Gretzky's Restaurant. Good food, walk down a hallway and you are at the theatre - the two are connected so you do not need to go outside. The show was very entertaining. Good value.
My husband and I attended a show on New Year's Eve with another couple and sat right in front! The employees were smiling, helpful, and friendly. The service was terrific, although the food in the theater itself was minimal. The seats are not the most comfortable and it was very crowded, but the show was great! Coming from the US, we didn't always get the Canadian point of view (especially when politically based), but most of it was focused on life, not politics, and it was very funny! We've been to Second City many times, both in Chicago, and in Toronto, and it is always a great time.
Thanks for visiting, and posting your response! We hope you'll have a chance to visit again soon! Brand new mainstage show opening in March!
My husband and I took a friend here who was visiting from Oz. We called to book on a Friday for that night and they said just to come down 20 minutes before the show. We got tickets fine which were $20 each to my recollection. The place was almost full but our seats were back centre and we could see and hear the show readily. The scripted material was light but no more twee than most SNL. Improv was impressive and there was a good mix of men and women in the 7 or so cast.Table service for drinks and basic bar food was offered. The entrance is full of great photos if past stars like John Candy andMartin Short.
Everyone likes to laugh, right? Great fun night out, have never been disappointed here. We were seated up close to the stage, so we really felt 'close to the action' and vulnerable to be part of the act! Have been here before to see other shows and this newest production HOW TO KILL A COMEDIAN was super. They were tweaking it for it's upcoming March run, but I can't see it getting much funnier! The improvisation was superb, we stayed around after the show for about another 30 min of improv. Close to some eateries (Gretzky's / Wahlburgers) and in fact the finger foods offered here were from Gretzky's kitchen, so if you're running late...no worries. Drinks reasonable and wait staff great.
My wife and I decided to see "Slings and Errors" on Valentines day. An improvement at it's best. A matinee is a great time to go. All were funny but Criss Gibbs and Katherine Ten Kate were especially outrageous. I have to mention "The Asians" were a hoot. A wonderful component of a weekend in Toronto.
Be sure to book your tickets in advance via the expedia or the second city website to save time and money, the place sells out quickly!
I hadn't been here for 25 years, and not too much has changed. That's OK. Top notch sketch comedy...we saw the "Best Of" revue. $14./person...105 minutes of fun. Booze prices are fair...the staff are discreet during the performance. Small chairs and can get very crowded so get there early for a good seat.
Took my college-age son, as I recalled enjoying the troupe in Chicago many years ago. The topics and sketches were very timely, and spoke to several of the themes of discussions he and I had had that day. We both very much enjoyed the humor and acting of the group. Be aware, the evening show "How to Kill a Comedian" is definitely rated "R." Drink choices were varied and reasonably priced, service good. Food choices sparing. The only complaint I have is that you are sitting on top of one another - I don't mind sharing a small cabaret table with strangers, but I am uncomfortable with having to scoot my chair/get up every time someone needs to pass by. If you anticipate any problem with this, I would recommend a reserved table ($15 more) which appeared more spacious, or perhaps ask the staff to seat you somehow in the back or something.
