Wonderful (and amazingly intact) example of Romanesque architecture in Spain. If possible stop by a few times to see it "change" in the different sunlight. The interior is stark which helps one appreciate the architecture even more.
This church is almost a thousand years old, and is an intact example of an 11th. c. Romanesque church. Arches, barrel vaults and friezes are all typichal of the period. The fact that this church predates almost all the wonderful churches on the Camino de Santiago makes it a must-see for pilgrims and other tourists alike. One pays a couple of Euros to get in, and this is no longer a working church, so it has similiar opening hours to museums.
Lovely serene church, not ornate, but the carved capitals on the columns were most unusual in style.
This is one of the memorable landmarks on a pilgrimage across Spain. We didn't go inside, but it was a nice place to sit on a bench in the courtyard and relax.
One of the finest examples of a Romanic church in Spain. On the Camino De Santiago, the church is in the village of Fromista which has good motor way links to the north and south. The Village has good amenities including bars, restaurants, hotels, supermarket and a filling station. Rail links to Santander and the south. Water and parking facilities are provided for motor homes or caravans next to the park and outdoor swimming pool on the entrance to the village from the motorway. There are rivers and a canal on the edge of the village, good for walking cycling or just relaxing. Closest airport with Flights from the UK is Santander 1 1/2 hours away by motorway, or by train. The regional Capital Palencia is half an hour away, by car or bus.See the real Spain.
