Our driver taking us to Gdansk syopped at the cathedral while there was an organ concert going on. The church is magnificent but the concert was better. The acoustics were remarkable and we were spellbound for 45 minutes. Not far from Gdansk center by cab.
We visited this place and was lucky enough to be able to hear the Organ being played amazing I was blown away. This is a must see place when in Gdansk easy to get to by tram or bus we took the tram only 75p single trip. The Cathedral was one of the best I have visited all over Europe they also have a lovely café outside so next time you are in Gdansk please visit and see for yourself you may be lucky like us and hear the organ I could have sat there all day amazing place please visit and leave a donation you wont regret it.
A lovely cathedral with a magnificent organ. Make sure to be there for the 20 minute concerts. It would be a shame to miss hearing this most special and spectacular instrument.
Oliwa Cathedral situated on the outskirts of Gdańsk is an amazing place for many reasons.First of all, it's Great Organs, designed & constructed in 18th century create truly unforgettable scale of tones with all it's pipes and additional instruments. Visitors can regularly attend 20 min. long concerts performed by the local priests or choirs.Secondly, it's very long & narrow (main) Nave contains several chapels and 23 altars - it's finished with pretty impressive High Altar. Finally, apart of some significant tombstones, paintings and ornaments presented on the walls, one can find a Memorial Prayer Plaque in Kashubian language as well. Oliwa Cathedral is quite symbolic for the entire Kashubian community living in Poland.I would definitely recommend everyone to pay a visit here (esp. on Sunday morning, afternoon) when the Holy Mass takes place.
I visited Oliwa cathedral and couldn't believe how beautiful and peaceful is. Surrounding areas / gardens are perfect for relax or quiet walk and everywhere you feel that magic. Definitely place where to have wedding :)
We loved the wonderful organist who played for us. Highly recommended, especially as it was just a 20 minute tram ride from Gdansk.
Whenever I hear those words, I am immediately ready for a great experience and have not yet been disappointed. This short demonstration of the Oliwa Organ was really well done and added to the enjoyment of our day around Gdansk.
As we arrived the concert was about to start so we sat and listened to 30 minutes of most fabulous music; Grieg, Haydn, Bach and Shubert...it did sent shivers down my spine and the beauty of it almost made me cry. The nun who performed the concert was a truly amazing organist. The entry to the Cathedral s a donation only, so we were more than happy to place a hefty contribution as the Cathedral itself and the concert were well worth a visit
Oliwa Cathedral is famous from Music festiwals oganized there. Especially Organ music is rare occasion to be heard there.
We loved the sound and watching all the moving parts - huge organs the size of a three storey building - see them if you can - hear them is even better
