No matter your ability/skill level they have trails to challenge you or enjoy an easy glide. The rental equipment is always in great shape. The full moon ski events have become a locals favorite. Love the bonfire and free hot chocolate! They host the 'Doggie Drag' annually to support the local animal shelter. A fun day you can bring your dog skiing with you. Grand County has a four day school week, on Fridays the students (all ages) get free or deeply discounted pricing to encourage them to ski either downhill or Nordic, many Olympians have roots in Grand County Colorado. The staff are attentive and top notch. The clubhouse is newly remodeled they offer spirits & food and a huge fireplace keeping it toasty warm. The spectacular views of the Never Summer Range in Rocky Mountain National Park add to the overall complete package.
This place offers several activities, including cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, tubing, and a hiking trail that welcomes dogs. They have equipment for rent, or you can bring your own.
Ski trails spread over both the golf course and through the nearby forest and vary from beginner to advanced. Staff is knowledgeable, professional and genuinely interested helping we who ski here. Lots of local residents are daily or weekly skiers at this facility.
This has consistently been our favorite x-c ski place in the entire area. It has everything you need; x-c ski trails for experts to beginners, snowshoeing, glorious views, good maps and signage for the directionally challenged, fabulous friendly staff, even great soup on the weekends!Everyone is very friendly. We've been coming for years. They encourage you to bring in food and eat it in the dining room, which only is open on weekends. The dining room area is cozy with fireplace, etc., perfect if you have a non-skiing family member; open with lovely views. The trails are great, and offer all sorts of views from trees and ponds (for windy days) to mountain vistas. The place offers the best skiing, best lodge, and best staff ... for the entire area. We generally come up 1-2 weeks every winter, and although we still ski YMCA, St. Louis Creek, Devil's Thumb, etc., this is our favorite.
Everything about the time we spent at The Nordic Center was great! We went snowshoeing and had the best time; the trail is great! After we were done snowshoeing we enjoyed a drink in the lounge while playing connect four and watching the snow fall, all while sitting in front of the fireplace. Everyone was very friendly; we will definitely be back!
This is a great place for nordic skiing and snowshoeing. It's all rather unpretentious and unexpected. Part of the trail system is over the golf course. It offers stunning views of the upper Colorado river valley into Rocky Mountain National Park. The groomed trails are well maintained and there are many trails for skiing. You can rent equipment or bring your own. The staff is incredibly friendly. Lunches are simple and scrumptious -- mostly self serve and enjoy the view! This is a place to revisit!
We have cross country skied at Devils Thumb and Snow Mountain Ranch in the past, and both are excellent nordic ski areas. We went to Grand Lake and were pleasantly surprised. The trail system is pretty extensive and has all levels. The area is beautiful, and the trails are groomed for classic and skate.
I have been skiing here since I could walk. The new addition of the sledding hill makes the day twice as fun..and for only a small donation! Make sure to take a midnight moonlight ski and stop for hot chocolate at the campfire. If you prefer the daytime, go ahead and bring your doggie on the dog loop. Truly something stir everyone and a great workout whether cross country skiing or ski skating!
Without this place and the awesome staff, we would probably lose it in the winter up here.. the trails are beautiful and beautifully maintained. They have expanded where dogs are allowed which is awesome too... We took family here over Christmas and it was just perfect!
This Nordic center has to be one of the best kept secrets. Besides cross-country they have a tubing hill where you can borrow a tube and tube/sled for free ( donations accepted) what a fun time!
