The Beacon is accessible on foot via a tarmac track. Being the highest of the Hills it is a magnet for the casual tourist and offers agreeable views but rather boring surroundings. For the real joy of the area, go south to Midsummer or Raggedstone Hills.
Climbing to the top of The Beacon is a must. The are various way of getting to the summit like straight up Happy Valley past Saint Annes Well, or drive to the Wyche Cutting and take the easier route. Don´t forget your camera and taking warm clothes is a must.
Walking amongst the Malverns is one of those pleasures you smile at whenever you remember it. Worcestershire beacon is the high point but there are enough opportunities across the range to entice the least energetic. Once at a height or especially on a ridge, the lack of vegetation offers a truly stunning view across the area.
Our first trip here and we were surprised at the amount and variety of walkers and cyclists of a wide age range making it up here, on a sunny February day. It was a great day out.
Walked up to the Beacon from Great Malvern this morning just because I can. I've done this walk loads of times and I never grow tired of the views. I'm so lucky to have a beautiful place like this on my doorstep. If you want the easy route walk up from the Wyche Cutting. Either way you will get stunning views.
Quite a steep climb up to the top, however the spot is accessible via road to a nearer spot. But the view from the top is simply breathtaking & worth the effort. If you have time its a good hike over the weekend...
Highest spot in Worcestershire. Worth the effort!. Easy access from the centre of Malvern up into the hills.
Whilst it's a good climb it's very pleasant and on a clear day you can see for miles. We met a chap up there who had just completed his 49th climb to the summit in as many weeks - I ca see why he returns!
This is not a climb for anyone without a good heart, lungs and legs. It's a great cardio workout (but very do-able, you don't have to be an elite athlete or anything), and the view from the top is worth every step. (Savour the flora and the views along the trail on the way up, too.)
We found the climb quite hard as not used to hills! We took it steady with plenty of stops and were so pleased to make it to the Beacon!
