had a blast here. kind of expensive but lots of fun. Swimming, Kregs Cruisers near by. And the sand dunes are amazing. Beautiful and so much fun for family!
While many of these reviews are talking of 4x4 and riding the dunes - we where in a family type area of families laying and playing on the beach - not a single vehicle in sight or ear shot for that matter. The place where we where allowed dogs and there was about a dozen of them there - it was wonderful - we parked in a public access area and did have to walk a bit over the dunes to get to the water but it was worth it!
We really enjoyed our visit to the sand dunes at Silver Lake.We had the dune buggy excursion which was very well done by our driver/Guide.
bring your friends you wife how ever you want you will have the best time ever .... just bring your toys bikes trucks and this will be a ride you will never forget...
These dunes area great way to have fun and enjoy nature! Beautiful formation, breathtaking views, and good people. You can explore the dunes by renting a shared or private, self-driven ATV, or bringing your own vehicle. We took the sunset tour as a family and recommend it to all our friends.
We were camping at the Silver Lake State Park and just driving around when we dead ended at this mountain of sand, which turned out to be part of Silver Lake sand Dunes. You could see the dunes across the lake from our camp site and we were told that Lake Michigan was on the other side of the dunes. So when we dead ended at the dunes I jumped out of the car and followed the crowd up the dune. I figured I would go to the top and take a few pics of the view and a few pics of Lake Michigan. I even made a video of my trek to the top.The top turned out to be a few miles of top. I could barely see the edge of Lake Michigan in the distance. I would have had to walk at least a half of a mile to get to the other side where you could fully view the lake. Theses dunes were massive. There were people picnicking at the top and having a great time. People had their beach chairs and volley balls...... It was great. Unfortunately I didn't have the time that I needed to explore But you can.......
The Silver Lake Sand Dunes is one area of the Silver Lake State Park (park entrance fee required). It was a bit of a challenge climbing up the loose sandy dunes but so worth the effort. At the top, the sand was packed better and the walking was easier. Here, we saw a small “ghost forest” and we enjoyed the view of land and lake. In another section of the park, during the summer, Mac Wood’s Dunes Rides offer a fun opportunity to ride on the dunes (extra fee). The area is less crowded and quieter during the “off seasons” but many area attractions will be closed. Silver Lake Sand Dunes is a fun family place.
I was raised in this area. Natural Beauty that should not be missed by anyone visiting the area. Camping available, nature trails beautiful lighthouses.
Amazing Dunes make you think you are in North Africa. Stunning views of Lake Michigan. Rent a Jeep or ATV, or bring your own 4 wheel drive vehicle and go out on them.. Lo's of helpful people to pull you out around if you get stuck. The beach is a great picnic area, the lake bottom is sandy with a gradual slope. Good place to bring kids.
This was my first time there, and we will return. We spent Saturday and Sunday driving the dunes. We parked right along the beach of Lake Michigan, put up our canopy and had a picnic, watched boats, walked the beach, drag races and the kids playing in the inter coastal pools! A great day of family fun. The key, get in early and get your spot!
