Actually the eroded limestone is what makes this cathedral so unique and gives it character. It was clod so we could not go in but the exteriors is quite lovely.
Went to the sunday catholic service staring at 10:30am on a hot day... It looks like, you cannot visit it any other day. There is always something to have a church service in a very old building..
Beautiful cathedral, well restored. Interesting architecture, look at the coral stone construction. Cathedral Square also interesting with the bears representing the various countries, very surprising finish to each bear as it represents your country.
The Cubian people are very religious. The statues were great and they have some locals take you around and explain different areas. Be sure to tip them a bit as this seems to be a source of their only income.
When you write about Havana, you think of the old city and the cathedral is one of the most iconic buildings in the old city. It is another piece in the puzzle.
This magnificent cathedral is worth a visit. Behind massive wooden doors is a well designed colonial piece of architecture. One can feel the power the Catholic church must have had in Colonial times by experiencing the grandeur of this building.
Impressive looking cathedral with a bell tower and nice architecture. Quite small inside and easily viewable from just inside the entrance where you stand behind a rope. You can pay and walk around but there is no real need. Please be aware you cannot wear shorts, hats or short skirts inside the main area.
We were lucky enough to be there for a Sunday morning service with the Archbishop in attendance with a junior choir
I visited the cathedral on Christmas. The church was packed with worshipers. The ceremony of the High Catholic Mass was inspirational, even to an non-Catholic like myself. Cathedral Plaza is an interesting threshold to the cathedral with interesting shops and lots of paladars.
A little cathedral - all of the inside can be viewed from the roped off entrance if you don't wish to pay to enter. There are a few frescoes, but not the expected gold and treasures you would see in other cathedrals. Remember to cover up, as strict on inappropriate clothing if entering.
