My family took a spontaneous trip from Florida to Texas to pick up my stepson. We stopped here and the place was awesome. The bathrooms were cleaner than some hotels I have seen. The place is just beautiful and so quiet. My husband and son went down to the lake to fish and I was able to stay at the campsite and relax. We chose this park because it was close to West Monroe. There's even a Piggly Wiggly about 9 miles down the road in Homer.
Took my daughter and all 5 grandkids (ages 8-2) to the beach at Lake Claiborne State Park. Had a ball! Practically the only ones on the beach. Clean and quiet! The bathrooms were really good and clean, considering the location (on a beach). The food at the concession stand was a little pricey but good quality and variety.
The water level was was extremely low last year when I camped but it was nice and high this time! Its such a neat park and the bathrooms are kept very neat. Free washer and drier use as well. :)
First, I am really surprised that there aren't more reviews of this beautiful park. I created a login just to review this place because I feel like it hasn't received enough justice. I have been to most parks in northern Louisiana and this one is by far the best. The park and area looks very different from most of Louisiana. It's very hilly and reminds me more of Tennessee and that area. The lake is exceptionally clear/clean, which is rare for a Louisiana lake. The park is well laid out and the staff is friendly and helpful. Each camping area has it's own boat ramp and docks that you can tie the boat up to. We took and evening boat ride over to the Port Au Prince restaurant for dinner also. We also took morning hikes on a few of the nature trails and they are all well marked. Don't hesitate to stay here...you will be impressed! Word of caution...make sure that your food is locked up and hidden from the raccoons....they can and will open any container that you have. We had a big plastic tub and they busted into it. They also lifted the 15 pound lids on the park trash cans to get food. They are not scared and will come right up to your site at night to get your food while you are sitting at your camp fire. You have been warned,
The park now has an outstanding disc golf course. While the terrain is quite challenging, you won't find a more beautiful course. So far, there are 27 holes through the ravines and hills of the mixed pine-hardwood forest. Many people play the first 18, camp for the night, and play the final 9 the next morning. Check out the Lake Claiborne State Park Disc Golf page on Facebook in addition to the regular park Facebook page.
Love the lake and the people the fireworks were great for the fourth water was full of boats but everyone was polite it was a very nice fun filled weekend
Cabins were basically clean but windows were so dirty you could not see at the waterfront. Ceiling fans and light fixtures were very dirty. We left one night early because beds were so uncomfortable. Really disappointed. It has great potential, but for &140, not a good deal.
This is such a beautiful state park with an awesome lake. We (6 ladies from high school) by staying in a cabin by the lake and it could not have been better, with the exception of possibly having another bathroom. The cabin met all of our needs with the deck on the back, and the screened porch on the side. The walking paths lead down to the pier for a better view of the lake and a nice place to watch the sunset. The back of the cabin has a nice fire pit for awesome campfires at night. And there is no shortage for firewood to gather. We have decided this will be our reunion place again next year. Just perfect! There is also boating, swimming, & fishing during the summer time!
Got there early on a Friday and they let us pick our spot and we choose a lovely location down by the lake. So nice that they let us tent campers use an RV spot so that we have access to power and water. The lake is pristine in condition which is rare for Louisiana bodies of water and the facilities are clean and warm when you need showers or a bathroom. We will be back for sure!!!
After camping in tents for 25 years, we bought a camper. We decided to camp at Lake Claiborne overnight. We camped at #47, it's a really nice spot. The whole park is beautiful. The bathrooms are really nice too. We didn't fish or swim but it's a beautiful lake. We'll go again when we have more time but it was a really nice stay.
