It was great. Traveled from Waldon to Ft. Collins. Lots of places to stop to take in the views. Most restrooms were closed for the season.
Traveling along the great works of nature on this canyon road is amazing. There are so many photographic opportunities you won't know where to start. We went in fall before the snowfall, which in this area should be no later that September.
What a beautiful drive along the river we enjoyed today. Although the temperature wa in the 30's and the river was partial frozen, the scenery was breathtaking.
Drive all the way to Cameron Pass if you want to see moose. Dress in layers. The temperature changed from 80 to 40 in just a few hours' drive. Stop at the Visitor Centers - super helpful staff. We have not had time to hike much, there, but have heard very good things. Count on at least 3 hours to get to Cameron Pass.
There is ALWAYS something to do around the river! Lots of rafting and picnicking! The river with the mountain setting is beautiful.
Best outfitters and most professional in the area- Rocky Mountain Expeditions! Awesome experience and so fun!
We drive Hwy 14 on the way to Steamboat every trip we make that direction. There are plenty of pull-outs and great views around each corner. Don't miss this Hwy if you're going to be in northern Colorado. I'll be doing it again next fall.
The Poudre is great for so many different outdoor activities. If you come to Fort Collins without visiting the canyon, you are truly missing out.
First, it was a beautiful early October weekday. Very, very little traffic so no pressure to keep up speed. Plenty of pull offs to let cars by if there were any, and for photos and viewing. The river has fantastic rapids that have cut out narrow gorges in some areas. It was after the season, sot the campgrounds were closed, but they looked very inviting. There were numerous bathroom facilities open along the drive...the compostable type with out running water. You end up at the Continental Divide, where we turned around to return back to our airbnb near Ft Collins.
We started in Ft. Collins and before we knew it we were a few hours into the mountain. Once we got out of the canyon and on the top flat area, we saw Mule Dear and a few Moose. Stopped in the small town of Walden for snacks, (first gas station / store). This is a beautiful drive with lots to see. I recommend starting the trip early morning and making a complete day of it.
