So, when everything is closed in Kerrville before the sun goes down, you can take a relaxing walk along the river! Their nature center has a paved walkway near the Gaudalupe River (I think) that's nice. They have some beautiful trees there. Also, the ducks will follow you! It was nice.
This was a nice stroll in a garden of native plants that is along the river. They have special activities for children. One of the volunteers was off-putting with her criticism of other sites in Kerrville, especially when we had just said that was what brought us to the area.
Wonderful place for the family! This was a nice stroll in a garden of native plants that is along the river.
This was a very well designed 'park' and the locals should really take advantage of it - we did see quite a few people there walking (with and without their dogs) I saw quite a few critters (bream, fancy bird that I haven't ID'd yet and a super friendly squirrel (he thought we were going to feed him) Really nice ! Only thing, I wanted to buy something in the gift shop and it was closed - it was advertised as open from 11-3 but signage on door said 1-3. They should correct that. Another couple wanted to go in too....
Not a huge center but the staff and very knowledgeable and patient with young children. My grandkids, ages 10 and 12 insist on visiting the center every time they are in Kerrville and never get tired of the exhibits.
We spent some time inside exploring the exhibits and talking to the volunteer staff working there. They were very knowledgeable and kind enough to share their knowledge with us. The walk inside the gated area was nice. Many of the plants were dormant because of our winter visit, but loved the name tags, letting us know what trees and plants were. From the parking lot, we strolled down the river trail. It was very nicely paved and we enjoyed watching the turtles sun on logs in the river, saw many birds and butterfies, and even a squirrel were spotted out along the trail.
This was a nice hike, the majority was paved and easily accessible. The kids just wanted to run up and down the hills. We packed a lunch and did this in the early morning. We notice there were some classes/educational opportunities on a few weekends and would have loved to catch one so check the website. There are restrooms available that were clean and well maintained. We were excited to see a police presence as well on the hike.
I really enjoyed this nature center. They have so many of the native plants labeled. The trail is really easy to navigate and has places to sit and enjoy the scenery. Looking forward to bringing my old dog in her stroller next time! Wish they sold seeds for the different plants. Like the stem with 3 flowers.
The garden is great, very informative. Then be sure to walk through fence gate to a path down to the river. Cross the little bridge, see the view I've added, and enjoy a wonderful walk. I would suggest taking a picnic down to the river, there's tables there and a beautiful setting.
This is a nice little free Nature Center but lacks real excitement. Displays are a 5 on a scale of 10. The walking trail by the Guadeloupe River does make a visit worthwhile.
