Terrible sidewalk care led to a very treacherous walking surface for my family, to the point we chose to walk in the snow.
We took the last English speaking tour of the day (16:00). We enjoyed the tour and the timing made for great lighting when we reached the ramparts that overlooked the city and the St Lawrence River.
Excellent attraction which is in the heart of this great city. In the summer months you should take in the changing of the guard ceremony. The Royal 22nd Regiment museum - also housed here - should be part of your tour.
This was a pleasant surprise. I'm not usually into military museums but this one is really well done. It was really well organized and thorough. The films at the end were very interesting as were all of the exhibits. The "Parallels" photography exhibit was particularly interesting. We went on a guided tour in English with a guide named Jared. He was fantastic-engaging, funny, knowledgable. The view of the city on the tour was also amazing. Possibly one of the best views in the city. A definite must see!
We and 2 other couples enjoyed the tour of the citadel which included the newly opened museum and a tour of the grounds and some of the buildings. I loved the history and the views from the walls of Quebec are stunning!! I highly recommend!
Beautiful site to see. Start in the medal room if you can, lots of amazing Canadian heroes' medals reside in this room and the story behind them is inspiring. This wonderfully rich fortification is quite the experience.
Call ahead to find out when the 1-hour English speaking or French speaking tours leave. You can't do a self-guided tour since this is an active military location. We took an English speaking tour with Jared. Despite the wind and subzero (Fahrenheit) temperatures, we thoroughly enjoyed this walking tour of the Citadel. Our guide Jared's enthusiasm and love of Quebec and Canadian history made the tour fun and interesting. I learned a lot and will never forget his telling of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. 5 stars! If you're doing this tour in the winter, dress for freezing cold and wind. However, there are regular stops in buildings, so you do get a chance to periodically warm up.
Only got to view this amazing fortress from the outside and above. Hours/tours are limited since this is still an active military base. Make sure to work it into your schedule better than we did! The history is simply amazing - and this is just what we learned from signs around the outside. Can only imagine how great the inside tour must be!
The whole family including a teen and a 12 year old enjoyed the tour. Very interesting to hear the history from a French Canadian point of view. Guide was very knowledgable and very interesting. Highly recommended.
Thank you Lisa for taking time to write a review on the Musée at La Citadelle de Québec. We are glad you enjoyed your visit. You are absolutely right to say that the view over the river and the old Québec city is wonderful. I hope you visited our new museum and the permanent exhibition "Je me souviens". We are proud to pay homage to the men and women of the Royal 22e Régiment.Best regards,Marie-Hélène Vallée, Ph.D. (histoire)Chef guide adjointeMusée Royal 22e RégimentLa Citadelle de Québec 1, Côte de La CitadelleQuébec (Qc) G1R 4V7
