I have continually taken people to view this quaint chapel. The lights in the winter are well worth the trip and the gift shop is precious.
This church/chapel is worth the drive. The grounds were very well keep. The chapel is very peaceful.
If you're into giving a little back to Our Lord while you're enjoying a vacation, make sure you stop for a little bit to give thanks! It's amazing, no nails were used and the caretaker is very welcoming and knowledgeable.
What a surprise hidden away on the west side of Rapid City, SD! We loved the detail in the wood work and what a peaceful setting. A must see and a great photo opportunity!
Truly a wonderful experience. Almost every piece of material built in the chapel was brought from Norway. Architecture was unbelievable and the location is just perfect. There is serenity around the area that one can't help but meditate. Although we came and visited around 4 years ago, i just think the best time you'd want to visit will be around spring and summer so you could explore the area at your own pace.
Check it out! It should only take an hour or less of your time. Along with the church, there is also a cabin or little museum with past artifacts that you can check out too. Bathrooms are near the cabin. I thought it was cool to able to see this type of chapel in South Dakota of all places! It's a pretty small chapel but I enjoyed seeing the detail of the building and just being able to walk around on a nice sunny day. Volunteers are around to answer questions as well. Small gift shop selling Scandinavian items.
As a Norwegian passing through South Dakota, I had to stop to check out a replica of a Norwegian stave church. It was quite fun to see the "Stabbur" and especially all the Norwegian-imported products. It's all run bu volunteers, so don't forget to donate a few bucks on your way out.
A perfect spot to spend a relaxing afternoon or to go get truly special photos for prom, wedding ect.
This little-advertized location is definitely worth trying to find. It only requires an hour of your time, but you will appreciate the Chapel and its beautiful surroundings. The caretakers of this place are very knowledgeable and friendly, and not pushy at all about buying anything. Make an effort to stop at this peaceful place.
We were allowed to visit right after a wedding. Very nice replica of a Norwegian Stavkirk. Please ask if you are going to visit on a Saturday/wedding days.
