This is a truly spectacular location. From the other side of the canyon is is possible to pick out specks on the rock face, only to realise they are intrepid climbers. A well maintained place with nice walking trails. The sunset is wonderful.
An incredibly beautiful destination that can be enjoyed by the least able to the most adventurous. We totally enjoyed our leisurely walk around the trail. The beauty of nature and the spectacle of the rock climbers kept us entertained for hours. In fact, we came back a 2nd day. So easy to get to and only $5 to park! What a deal!
This well known park is a beautiful place to spend a few hours hiking and simply watching the rock climbers scale the sheer walls! You can bring a picnic lunch and eat it sitting on rocks by the river! A gorgeous place as a backdrop for awesome photography! We hiked as an adult family of 8 with a 3 year old in December and had a spectacular time! Parking is $5. Enjoy the serenity and ponder the history of this absolutely stunning area.
Don't plan to see it all in one day. It's such a beautiful area with multiple hiking opportunities. Panoramic views of the mountains in the background. Definitely a place to check out if you're in the area.
What a great park to go visit. It is only 6 miles from our home. We love to take visiting friends over to Smith Rock and observe the "Monkeys" (human rock climbers) going up the sheer cliffs. It is interesting to see the different license plates from all over the USA and from out of country also.
It's about 1.5 hours drive from Bend, OR and it's one of Oregon's 7 Natural Wonders. Another one to add to the bucket list for natural beauty. Simply wonderful. There are many trails through out and the fee is only $3 at the Kiosk. Bring cash. The trails are fairly steep and narrow going to the top but it's well worth it. Be careful of the loose gravel especially going down. One must compromise watching the feet and the views, but stopping to admire the beauty is what it's all about. The views are amazing from every step of the way. This is a hikers and rock climbers paradise. I saw a person walking on cable between two rocks-crazy. Thank goodness he was wearing a harness when he fell. So many trails to choose from: I chose Smith Rock and came down the back side near Monkey face and followed the river. Heaven
A must visit when in central Oregon. Grt hiking trail. A picture perfect place for a picnic a hike n a lot of rest. From above looking down looks like a scene right out of a John Wayne movie. River at the bottom hills around n a riding path I mean a hike trail that looks exactly like a scene from a western movie. Very peaceful. Like going there again n again. A must visit.
You can spent any amount of time you would want. Lots of short hikes. Several really longer hikes. If you are visiting Central Oregon a most stop.
My guide was Ben at Timberline Mountain Guides. He was competent and confident, which makes the guests feel at ease. Great experience.
This is quite a site (and sight). Quite a number of people, even on a weekday afternoon. The dramatic rocks are a climbers' destination. Interesting to watch them from the outlooks crawl up the seemingly vertical cliffs. And there is a shop selling ice cream nearby. Yum.
