The Jalama burger is the food of choice.Sitting on a picnic table overlooking the ocean is restful.RV park right there. It was full. We will try sometime. The park is about 20 miles from Lompoc out a basically one way road.Stop for the views, the ocean and a peaceful place unless your RV neighbors are into drinking.
Been going here for over 30 years, and it is still one of the most beautiful beaches on the central coast. Sunset Magazine wrote several articles praising the place, and now everyone knows! Hard to find a campsite now! Always expect wind, so be prepared whenever you arrive. Bathrooms need to be updated, as they haven't changed in over 30 years ! Really run down! Now that they are making a lot of money here with the increased camping rates, and high visitation, there is no excuse for the rundown restrooms. If you need to take a shower, take several rolls of quarters, as it costs a quarter for 1 minute of shower, with warm water not guaranteed! Lots of pot smokers walking around smoking pot in public. On a campsite next to ours, people in a large bus were playing loud music at night and smoking pot. The pot smell was drifting into out tent, so we informed the Ranger on duty that we did not want to breathe that, and he told us " I will not do anything about that". Guess they have more rights than we do!Highly recommend the store and the Jalama burgers. Watch for deer on the roads, as they just dart out in front of you. Raccoons at night, so watch you food!
When it foggy other places this place is clear. It is quiet but sometimes with a high surf. The really bad part is the long curvy road getting there. You need good brakes good eyes, good steering car. Watch out for bicycles.
My family and I have been going to jalama beach for the past 23 years. We do not typically go to the same places but Jalama's beaches draw us back every year. It is definitely an escape from the fast paced city life with cool breezes and relaxing atmosphere. I would recommend this place to everyone.
Really enjoyed going back in time to hippie days visiting this beautiful beach for the day. Camping didn't look all that great and the windy long road would not be fun in our motorhome. But what was fun was arriving and finding this very busy little store where you could buy a few groceries and other camping things and also get some decent fried good like hamburgers and garden burgers and fries. Take them outside to the beach and watch all the boarding and kite activities as you enjoy the burgers. Not sure I would camp here unless I was doing one of the water activities that called for wind and big surf. But, go and check it out!
Jalama is a great beach for surfing, walking or having a delicious burger. A great beach for camping as well. Can be windy .
Jalama Beach County Park requires an effort to get to. It's a 14 mile trip, one way, off Hwy 101. We went there for the first time in 30 years and had an enjoyable day. It's $10 per car for day-use. Camping spots are available and there are cool cabins there for rent. Flush toilets and showers are available. A "must" while there is grabbing a burger at the Jalama Beach Store. Very yummy!
A decent beach, small campsites. Lots of wind. Found a lot of scary bizarre looking spiders, small versions of those things in the Stephen King move called THE MIST.
Jalama Beach is a beautiful rugged beach situated an hours drive north of Santa Barbara. It has high cliffs and beautiful beaches with beautiful views in all directions. It is distinct from many of the other beaches in the area in the rugged coastline and high winds. It is a great place for recreation and photography.
