This is one of the most scenic drives we’ve ever been on. Many pull offs offer spectacular views. At one point on the road there’s a large pull off near 12,000 ft. with jaw dropping scenery. The air was so thin I could feel it in my lungs. You have panoramic views of snow capped mountains and lakes. We watched a yellow bellied marmot for probably half an hour nibbling on little pieces of vegetation. Then when he’d had his fill, he found a rock ledge on what was probably 1,000 ft. cliff, laid down on his belly and stretched all four legs out as far as they could go and just took in the view. Talk about a room with a view! Some compare this Road to Going to the Sun Road in Glacier. Trail Ridge is about 4,000 ft. higher in elevation. Both are definitely worth the trip!
我不太喜欢高的地方。但是路况很好,开车安全又舒服。景色壮观,科罗拉多管理,提供了许多停车和拍照的地方。
Spectacular! This 48-mile two-lane highway from the junction of Highways 34 and 36, west of Estes Park, to Grand Lake is one of the most scenic mountain highways in the US. It is not to be missed. There are lots of pullouts for taking photos and stretching ones legs. There is a Park Service visitor center at each of the highway, along with the Alpine Visitor Center near the highest point of the highway. We particularly enjoyed the stop at Rainbow Curve, and the 11 miles above timberline in the tundra country. We saw elk and moose during the time we spent driving and stopping along Trail Ridge Road. There are several trailheads along the western part of the byway. It is certainly among the five most scenic byways that we have been on in the US (others: Going to the Sun Road, Beartooth Highway, Pacific Coast Highway in Oregon, Skyline Drive).
I visited last summer and would get up every morning and ride up TRR from Estes Park. It's a lot of climbing, but absolutely worth it. The views, the wildlife - really amazing. You just keep pedaling because you NEED to see what's around the next curve....
一定要慢点爬,多带水,我姐夫在最高点都晕过去了,因为他觉得不渴,就没喝水。所以你便往上爬要便喝水。
To many words to describe how beautiful it is! My Husband and I drove around mid october where the mountains just start getting snow man it was cold & windy. Make sure you bring proper foot wear and dress warmly if you do and stop along the drive. The air is so thin you can feel it if you are used to lower altitudes. I did get altitude sickness unfortunately but still had a great time! You can get a lot of AMAZING pictures and you can go hiking where marked. We went all the way down to the continental divide and took pictures of the lake. Then came back up to watch the sunset over the mountains. You do not feel like you are top of a mountain. Lot of visitor centers to purchase food, drink and memorabilia. Definitely worth going!! make sure you take lots of pictures!!
if you get within a hundred miles, this is not to be missed. from granby to estes park this road gets you as high up as any, into the ice. this is a(nother) spectacular ride. it feels as if it goes even higher up than the icefields parkway in banff/jasper area. spectacular road. two lane. not much passing, if any. need go slow, with traffic. and space it out. NOTHING at south end of road in granby except gas / refreshments. estes park is beautiful, and could easily require two days or more to explore. lots of shopping and dining there. the oldest national park. the first national park. SPECTACULAR.
My husband, our 8 year old son, and I drove the Trail Ridge Rd last summer. It was amazing! Around every turn were gorgeous mountain views and photo ops galore! We started in Estes Park and drove over to Grand Lake and then back to Estes Park, taking most of the day to savor all this road has to offer. We stopped at many of the viewpoints, took a walk at the Tundra Communities Trail, went into the Alpine Visitor's Center, stopped for a photo op at the Continental Divide sign, checked out the Holzwarth Historic Site, plus much more! Along the way we saw many marmots, some elk and a couple of moose. I'd say it's the most beautiful drive I've ever been on and would definitely recommend it to others!
I have driven Trail Ridge Road a handful of times since moving to Colorado. The first time was the day it opened in 2014. The peaks surrounding the road were still covered in snow. Stunning views! There is a great deal of wildlife, whether you see it or not. Take a few minutes and stop away from the crowds. Marmots and pikas can be seen hiding out in the rocks along the edge of the road. Ptarmigans are very well camouflaged amongst the grasses of the tundra. Big horn sheep and elk visit occasionally, along with crows, ravens and eagles.
