On a quick trip to Rotterdam we decided to visit the zoo, well to see everything it was a full day trip took several hours to get around everything, but what a day, everything you would expect from a zoo and then some, reasonably priced, helpful staff and such a variety of animals in well kept enclosures, very easy to navigate, a place which I would definitely revisit
Blijdorp diergaarde is a very nice Zoo. All big animals are there. Many animals are showed in a more or less natural habitat combined with an excellent possibilities to view them. The tigers are just 5 cm away after the glass wall. The Giraffe house is spectacular. The same for the gorillas with the alpha male Bokito who escaped in 2007.
Rotterdam Zoo is one of the most natural Zoo's in The world. Very near the entrance you find a huge aqarium in hwich you can walk and see all the seefishes and animals. The wild animals all are in their natural habitat as much as possible. The Rotterdam Zoo "Blijdorp" has an international breeding plan with other zoo's all over the world. Excuse my English. You find a good hotel just outside the entrance.
Like all zoo's, there's a little sadness that comes with it. This zoo is very clean and easy to walk around. I do feel that the tiger is highly stressed and should be kept at a distance away from the lions. The Bison was cool to see but I could see the animals were all grouped together on the rear side of the enclosure as it seemed that they do not want to be near people. And they need land to roam around. The amazon forest enclosure was awesome!I have seen better zoo's, I think this zoo could do allot better for the animals considering it is in the Netherlands. As for the kids, I think it's a lovely place for kids in that part of the world to learn about animals and it's great for family time.
We went their with friends and family and enjoyed a lot. Variety of animals in there, tropical, subtropical and Nordic animals too.
We went for a day trip to Rotterdam and decided to spend it at the zoo, it was a great choice. The zoo itself incorporated the aquarium and the zoo as one. This made the experience even more enjoyable and we especially loved getting to see the science behind the aquarium. Staff were very friendly. The food is also really tasty and quite reasonably priced (as well as the entrance fee to the zoo) We would have given 5 stars but we thought the lion enclosure was a bit on the small side, having said that it looks like they will be relocating then to a bigger pen. With this in mind it will be a perfect zoo. Definitely one of the best zoos we've been to. Thank you for a great day out :)
This zoo is not only a nice park, but also a place where all animals are living in their natural environment, as much as possible, grouped per continent. Especially recommendable are the Oceanium and Amazone (butterfly house).
As a local I have had a frequent visitors pass for some years now, but the zoo is totally worth your money as a day visitor. It will take you a day to visit all the animals and the playgrounds (excellent when traveling with children!). It's easy to reach from Central Station and by car. Enjoy!
This a zoo where they clearly put the animals first. Large spaces and beautiful decorated. I love to go here for a long stroll and take my time because there is a lot of walking when you visit this zoo...
It is not just the animals, but also the large outdoor playground which makes Blijdorp Zoo a favorite outing for our kids (5-8 yr old). In terms of animals, the aquarium, the primates, the crocodiles, and the polar bears are the most popular. The only thing we miss as parents is a place with really good coffee.
