There are three principal islands. Marettimo is the most distant and is best visited as part of an overnight trip. The other two are easily visited by ferry boat on a day trip. Levanzo and Favignana are best visited by the car ferry which has open deck seating rather than by hydrofoil which obliges you to an inside seat with few views. Both islands are very scenic, even if you simply keep to the principal town.
We went to these beautiful 2 small islands by the blu lines boat. when we arrived at Favigniana we took a little tourist train which took us around the island. We stayed around 2 hours on this island, then we went to Levanzo which is smaller and for me more beautiful than Favigniana. A must see when going in Trapani
We took the hydrofoil from Trapani and travelled to Favignana. We hired a bike for 5 euros each and headed east from the port around the island discovering beaches, coves and cliff top views. The water a stunning turquoise blue. We've been road tripping around Sicily and this was one of those 'perfect days'!Couple of things:- take the hydrofoil from Trapani. It's quicker than the ferry.- really easy to buy tickets from the kiosk - you may need to book your outbound and return journey times to ensure a place on the boats. You can do this when you arrive in Trapani. Be warned, our boat going out was delayed which ate into the time we spent on Favignana (our return was virtually on time). You can't spend enough time travelling around the island so don't try to do it in a couple of hours. Book out the day and return in the evening.- to hire your bike, you'll need ID. Don't forget to bring it.- the hydrofoil usually stops in lavanzo first; feel free to stop off there for a while and then head to favignana later.- take a beach towel.... You're going to want to enjoy yourself!!
Very close. Easy to get to. Little tourist train takes you around the island. Well worth it. Tiny square to sit and have a drink. Not much lose there
These islands are easy to get to on your own. No need for a tour. Ferries run regularly between Trapani and the islands, also between the islands. We visited Levanza first, which is less populated, and at this time of year only has 1 bar open. The hikes were well marked and took us to some more isolated coves. There were several short hikes with great views and a couple long hikes(4hours). We also visited Favignana, but that island is larger with a larger population. Not so easy to see the natural beauty. We rented a scooter for 20e for half a day and just rode around the island.
Take the ferry to Favigana! Rent bikes (5 Euro/day!) and bike to the beaches,, clearest water I have ever seen. Great little day trip. Felt like a mix of Italy and Greece on the Island.
Worth the Ustica hydra foil over to the islands. We went to Favignana and it was an unspoilt paradiso! Once you get past the port, rent a bicycle in the centro, pick up some focaccia and snacks and LOTS of water from the little stores and head out exploring along the coastal road. Choose a little cove to relax and swim in the clear turquoise waters.
I have been several times to Favingana on a rented speedboat from Torre San teodoro, the prices vary in summer but max we have paid is €100 plus fuel roughly max €150 fits 4 comfortably can fit 5.Take the 40hp speedboat for a full day 9am - 6pm, drive across anchor up in one of the coves go snorkelling check which way the wind is coming from to choose the best cove there are many on each side, crystal clear water, take a cool box drinks sandwiches. You can either moor up in the harbour and have a look around or grab some lunch.
Clear green and blue sea, marvelous beaches and untouched nature. A good choice of restaurants serving dishes based upon fresh and local food.
Beautiful Island. Wished that we had spent a night on the island instead of just doing a day trip. Took bikes over on the ferry and made a little self guided trip of the island.
