The Staff at The Econolodge in Montpelier Suggested that this was a good place to jog or ride a bike and they where right. The trails was well maintained and loved the tower in the center of the park. also a good place for a picnic as there a many tables and grills throughout the park.
Thought this would be a great spot for a picnic lunch after a group ride, but the road into the park is STEEP and NARROW. The road was not very well maintained and gravel in the tight right hand turn made it even worse. There were no signs to find the picnic areas. Fortunately, a gentleman walking his dog helped us out. AMAZINGLY, there were NO mosquitoes in the picnic area so lunch was nice....but the ride up and down was not!
The short walk to this observation tower is right up our alley, but the drive to get there was not! Look at JWren's review also. "The second" entrance he refers to is the way our GPS instructed us to get to the park. It was crazy! Steep and winding! We continued down the road when we exited, which was JWren's "first" entrance... piece of cake. Cool that you can walk up the (modern) stairs inside the tower. The view from the tower was wonderful. The walk up the path was refreshing after being in the city. Go see this park, but go armed with directions from someone else than your GPS!!
This is a wooded area above Montpelier with lots of trails. There is a stone observation tower at the top with limited views of the town and the surrounding countryside. For first time visitors, the trails should be marked and trail maps should be provided.
I grew up near here and came tons as a teen. But many years have passed and as other reviews have said the trails should be marked a better. Glad it's free and open to the public it's a great area! It was a great little hike I had 4 kids aged 10 down to 2. All hiked it just fine. They enjoyed the tower area quite a lot. We found the better way down than we had gone up. But then had to figure out where we parked! It was an adventure!
I attended a birthday party at Hubbard Park and the shelter was awesome, clean and a great place to visit. Very nice! Would consider hosting a reunion, birthday party or other type of gathering here.
Having grown up a stone's throw from this Park, I can testify that it's a wonderful addition to the City of Montpelier. I spent many a girl scout experience there in my youth. Dirt roads, BBQ pits, hiking trails, and a stone-built "tower" at the top from which you can see a panoramic view of surroundings, Someone had the foresight to leave this property for the public for generations to come, and it is a great place to visit if you like the outdoors.
This is a great park year round. In the winter enjoy cross country skiing and great sledding. In the Spring, Summer and Autumn there are trails to walk or hike, facilities for picnics. There is also a tower to climb which gives a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains and Central Vermont.Hubbard Park is a gem in Montpelier. In the Autumn, the view is especially spectacular with the fall foliage. I like walking through the woods all times of the year. You can walk up to the park from Downtown (it's uphill) or there is limited parking in the park. It's worth the walk!
This was a park we went to just to wait for our main attraction the corn maze to open. However we were pleased to see it was a beautiful park with quiet trails and a open lodge with a fireplace.
We went on a cold and rainy day but it was still amazing, The woods were gorgeous and the view from the top of the tower was breathtaking.
