Who knew there could be a place like this in Kansas? That's what makes this place so awesome. The geology here is fascinating, and the rocks are fun to climb on too. It's not too far off the interstate, so this is a must visit natural attraction in Kansas.
We live locally and my kids get excited every time we go to Rock City! They can play there for hours! it's such a unique creation, you really can't describe it without experiencing it yourself.
This is another great place to visit while visiting in Kansas. This is worth a little time away from the the rush of traveling just to take a break. It is interesting to see the different formations.
The rocks are pretty neat, many sizes. Kids will love climbing on them. Great for stretching your legs. Great for taking pictures next too. Not a place to make as your travel destination but a great place to visit if you are traveling along I-70.
While they were big and neat and different, to me they were just a bunch of rocks. I would have passed, but was with a group tour that stopped there. We did get a few fun pictures, but I would have lived without seeing this.
Visited here with my husband and our grandson. We really enjoyed the sights of the rock formations. The grandson and his grandpa climbed some of the rocks and of course, posed for the camera. Nice place to stop out in the middle of the fields. The grounds were very well kept. The lady in the gift shop was very nice and helpful. There were a lot of Mosquitos though so had to spray up to keep them off me. Other than that, it is surprisingly worth the trip!
Stopped here just to break the monotony of I-70 through Kansas. 18 year old complained the whole way between interstate & Rock City. About how "lame" it would be. Once we got there, we had to drag him out of there! You are allowed to climb all over everything so be sure to bring your sneakers. There are picnic tables in the shade so next time we will plan to eat while we are there.
A very nice spot. If you are looking for quite, well maintained, nature area, this is your spot! Picnic tables available and lots of bird watching.Dogs are welcome but have to be on a leash. We had a great 90 minutes of walking around and having a picnic.
This are large, very large rock formations. It is a park, so you can get out and wander around, take pictures and relax. There are several picnic tables in the shade, if you are there in spring, early summer, fall. Kids would love it and there are tons of photo ops available. There is a small admission, I am sure for the maintance, which is put to good use as the grounds are very well maintained.... Just north of Salina, if you have time on your way here to there, go see it..
I took a day trip with the 4 kiddos (ages 3-11) and they all LOVED this place. We spent nearly 2 hours here...until I finally made them leave. There is nothing like good ol' climbing and exploring to keep kids entertained. There are some rather large formations for the older kids to climb and plenty of smaller challenges for the little ones to tackle. I would highly recommend this as a local day trip or a lunch stop as you are traveling along I-70...do stop and pick up a snack in Salina though. This is located 10-15 minutes north of Salina, There are restrooms and a very small gift shop, but not much else besides the rocks. They ask a small fee to enter the park (I paid less than $5 for all of us). Please realize that this is privately owned and helps pay for mowing and restrooms! Definitely worth it & the kids are asking to return!
