Very pleasant way to spend an hour or two and learn about the gold mining history of Mogo. Friendly staff, great location
We visited with our six year old grandson and his mother in January 2015.Dreadful place. Steep prices (and no remission for foreign seniors!) - and extra for the mini-golf and the maze. Mini-golf was unplayable in any case - a rough grass set-up, which was largely flooded. And the steam engine was not operating. The "Boot Hill" cemetery is overgrown, the bridge beyond is roped off and the whole place is a rip off - dirty and unattractive. It needs a massive upgrade to justify the entrance prices paid. A huge disappointment.
The admission prices are on the steep side. The steam train was not operating when we went. Gold panning was not very interesting. Overall, the place is not very interesting for young kids.
Had a great time stepping back in time. Sadly the train was not in operation but went panning for gold and found some. Fun time spent in the maze.
All good it is easy to pick on things but basically it is very nice experience to see how the early settlers survived
We had a nice day.... we started off with a 1 hour tour, the tour guide was full of character and very funny. We tried some gold panning. We didn't look for mini golf or maze or train... we loved the experience of showing our kids what the mining town looked like. they had alot of fun. We didn't think the attraction was over-priced, it was a different experience. it was an educational one. it was worth going to. We bought little jars of floating gold pieces and if you like birth stones and gems, these are alot cheaper than the city stores. we enjoyed it... we also dressed up, had a photo taken as we may have looked in the gold rush colony. It was $5 per costume, $10 for photo and then $5 per extra one. thats pretty good...
Visited in January 2015 as a group of eight with three adults. We were quite surprised at the price of $20 per adult and $12 per child. We were told this admission did not include access to the maze or mini golf. Sadly the train was not operating either. We started the visit by joining a tour that had already commenced. Corey, the guide was brilliant and happily answered our children's questions. We then joined another tour at midday to hear the part of the story we had missed. The new guide started by saying she would not help with gold panning at the end of the tour because she wanted a break. She was extremely rude to our children on numerous occasions. We decided to walk out when she snapped at our 18 month year old to be quiet.I would not recommend this attraction for anyone with children under the age of eight. They will take your money for young kids, but won't tolerate their inquisitiveness.
Our two small children really enjoyed our visit. We stayed onsite in a Miner's Cabin, which was clean and comfortable. Panning for gold, walking through a gold mind tunnel and visiting recreated buildings were the highlights for me. Kids liked the maze a lot though! Staff were friendly and helpful.
Guided tour was informative and gave you a real sense of what it would have been like to live in that era.We also stayed overnight and could look through at our leisure. We tried our hand at gold panning too. Fun for kids and adults alike.
Corey was our guide, and took us round the gold mining recreation of olden days. Funny and informative, and he was even very nice and patient when our autistic nine year old asked a very personal question! (Sorry Corey...) We had a go at panning for gold, mostly unsuccessful this trip, but last time we went our son did get enough to almost pay for the entrance tickets, so there is definitely gold there to find. There was also an engine club of some kind there as well, and they were running big old engines, fascinating in power and size, and the little steam train runs round the loop. There are also the standard "Wanted" posters you can have done in old time wardrobe, and there are a few interesting knick knacks in the shop - could probably do with more variety though. On the walk up from the mine site there are a number of nature trails, including one where the bower bird has constructed a site just by the path to attract a mate. Nice, entertaining, and educational, morning out, most of the activities (except the tour) you can do in your own time - and there are also entertainment nights with dances and the like on some weekends - with accommodation also on site.
