Lake Iseo is my favourite lake in Northern Italy. It is not as touristy as the other lakes. Taking a ferry to the island is definitely worthwhile. The island is very pretty and from there you also have a great view of the surroundings.
We had a magic couple of days staying in Sulzano and visiting Monte Isola. It was mid-late April 2013 with good weather and few other travellers. V easy to stroll along the shore where the restaurants are etc, and the Church on the top of the island is a great view. We hadn't planned this but got lucky and stumbled on one of the best travel experiences in my life... an easy downhill hike from the Chruch to the ferry wharf at Peschiera Maraglio. Walking or cycling up to the church would not be impossible, but would be very arduous. We took the bus to Cure which I would recommend. Little orange bus mostly for locals. There is also a loop shuttle bus to Cure during peak season as well (August). The regular bus only runs 3-4 times in the middle of the day so don't miss one of these (0910, 1105, 1430 on weekdays from Peschiera). The bus literally goes everywhere on the island before it goes to Cure but this is pleasant, takes about 30 min. I uploaded the timetable. From Cure, a small hamlet near the top of the island, it is about another 500m uphill to the church. This is a well paved and used path up from Cure. It is marked in orange colour on the walking signs around the place. Have a look at the church and view, v nice. The path back down to Peschiera Maraglio is well worth finding but the origin of the track gave us a little trouble to find. This is the dark blue path on the walking signs. The easy start to the path branches of the main path you took up from Cure, about 50-100 m before you reach the church. The main path is paved, the branching track is not. Alternatively, if you keep walking past the church itself, you walk down a very uneven short rocky section, past a small helipad, and you link up with the blue path that way. After you find the start of the path you can't wrong. What follows is a magic little walk along a very narrow and picturesque trail with great views in places. Weaves between small farmhouses and many great photos. I uploaded a couple.Very very highly recommended. Beats walking uphill too!
Beautiful place, especially in golden hours time. I could not to stop taking pictures of the sunset reflected in the water of Lake Iseo.
We just criss-crossed the island (well-marked paths) from the port to its highest point with great view giving unique opportunity to admire island and mountains surrounding the Iseo lake.
We were to Mn Isola three Times during our stay at Lake Iseo and we always enjoyed tiny streets, nice restaurants and a mood of this place.
If u are in this zone u have to visit. The both cost like 6 euro there and back and is nice quaite island
