My boyfriend and I went to the Grey Roots Museum, unfornately we did not get through it all because I recently hurt and twisted my knee . The archives and stuff that we did see was so interesting though, maybe next year we can go through it all
This beautifully designed building has a modern, upbeat take on how to display the history of the area. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I was fortunate enough to be here for a special event, The Ontario Handspinning Seminar, where we got to go behind the scenes to see the incredible Dorothy Kirk spinning wheel collection.
Thank you very much for taking time to review Grey Roots! We are glad you enjoyed our new summer exhibits and movie in the Theatre. We look forward to seeing you again in the future! Sincerely,Lara JavalynCommunity Relations CoordinatorGrey Roots Museum & Archives
I have visited this museum several times and while it is not large , it always offers something interesting . The pioneer village also provides a look back with wonderful volunteer guides who are very knowledgeble .
A very well-organized museum complete with outbuildings including an Anishinabe wigwam, a pioneer village with smithy and sawmill and an early 20th-century garage with classic vehicles.
On behalf of Grey Roots, I am very sorry to hear that your last visit to Grey Roots Museum & Archives was not positive. Our staff strives to make each and every visitor feel welcome and exceed their expectations whether it is through our exhibits, special events, programs, or tours. As you rightly pointed out, our food and beverage services are currently limited and we are reviewing how to better serve visitors both during our high season in the summer months, and also during the winter. We are looking to expand our current vending offerings and hopefully add a new cafe to the facility in the coming months.I welcome you back for a special tour of the facility, lead by myself, and supplemented by other museum staff. We hope very much to have another opportunity to present the importance this heritage facility has to the community and valued visitors like you. Please contact me directly at 519-376-3690 ex. 6130 if you wish to book a time for this tour.Lara JavalynCommunity Relations CoordinatorGrey Roots Museum & Archives
This is a great place to visit for a few hours. The displays in the main building are good, with some hands on displays, interactive exhibits, and very helpful staff. But it is the outdoor "town" that really makes this place great.Recreated or relocated period buildings from around the area are dotted around the 'town', each staffed by people in period costume who can talk knowledgeably about the history of the building, and the objects inside. Young and old will find it fascinating. A fascinating way to explore a bygone era.
Several times my family had driven by and it had been closed or we were too rushed. But we finally went in and I am glad we did! The main building houses several very interesting exhibits, which we looked over quickly. We then headed outside to their wonderful outdoor "village". It was great. Some places only focus on one time period but this one touches on several. The staff at every building were very knowledgeable and extremely friendly. We did not get a chance to see it all but we will be back. The admission for a family (20 dollars) was good. Although they consider a family to only be 3children with 2 adults when we had 4, the price did not go up as one of our children was under 5. They also seem to have some exhibits that are on loan so each time visiting will be a bit different.
My husband and I love this museum, we are annual members and have taken in many of the exhibits and special events (We really loved the Valentine event this year and plan to make it a annual event) The staff have a vast knowledge of the history and are very friendly always ready with a story. The exhibits cover a wide range of topics and are changed often so there is always something new to see. The village is great and has a lot of history to share. We both love coming to the museum and are planning to take visiting family when they visit this summer. Keep up the good work and we will continue to attend.
Thank you very much for taking time to review your visit to Grey Roots! We are very glad that your experience was a positive one and that you enjoyed the Print Shop demonstration and our new summer exhibition, Extreme Deep. We share your hope to expand the number of days the Heritage Village is open during the year to accommodate visitors such as yourselves. At present, the Village is open to the public in July and August and for special events. We look forward to seeing you in the future!Best Regards,Lara JavalynCommunity Relations CoordinatorGrey Roots Museum & Archives
