I'm not one to just go and hop on a horse, but the folks at Roosevelt Stables made me feel comfortable in doing just that. We came here to collect some geocaches on the Geocaching Trail here at Roosevelt Stables. We have found geocaches all over the world, but have not found any while sitting on a horse until now. I was there for a weekend horse competition and brought my own horse so I can't really say how the horses are. They were well cared for and after hearing the owner speak, I can tell he cares a lot about taking good care of the horses and giving customers a good experience. The trails are very nice and the views are beautiful from the Overlook Trail. This is a great place to go for families and dates as it would be something different than usual dinner and a movie. I don't know what the prices are but please keep in mind that it takes money to take good care of the horses and this man does not cheat the good horses for care.
I went horseback riding for the first time last weekend at Roosevelt Stables. The staff were friendly and you could tell work very closely with the horses. We were lined up and asked about our previous riding history (if any). I was correctly paired with Winchester- a gentle horse who could probably sense my inexperience. He was perfect and slowly walked us through the trails in the mountains. My fears were eased immediately and I was able to enjoy a nice relaxing ride. Our guide was friendly and cared about the horses. She made sure to keep checking on the group and was giving tips about how to make the horses do what we wanted them to do. I can't wait to go back!
The stable facility is not very appealing to look at, but is functional and the manager does the best job possible with the park resources available. The trails are very nice. The scenery is beautiful. We took our own horses and stabled them there for a weekend and rode on our own. The trails are very well marked and we enjoyed our stay at the park in the cabins. Our horses were fine with the stable.
Came here back in Oct, 2013 for the Mega Event. Trail rides were all full. Decided to make our 4th trip here for just this purpose. Likes - the guide, the horses, the geocaches, the journey & the shear excitement of geocaching on horseback. You gotta try it to understand it. Dislikes - only the weather, not their fault. We were here to ride the trail & we did. Funny thing it rained before we started & it rained when we were finished but it didn't rain during the ride. Awesome. 12 caches under our belt. Go for it, you won't be disappointed.
We did the cowboy trail horse riders it was such a pretty ride. The horses were great, our guide was wonderful and we had such a good time.
Well it was a great find to be able to see such a good ranch with such great looking horses. We rented three horses and both of my children had never ridden before. I was a little worried about the horses possible knocking them of but these are some of the friendliest most relaxed horses Ive ever seen. We all a had a great ride inside the Pine mountain. It felt like going back 100 year. Well it was so good we all cant wait to go back ! Oh yes and the guide are highly experienced. (I envy the guides job) Its a beautiful place.
We became City Slickers!! It was fun. The service was great! We took the hour guided trail ride which was so nice. I would recommend that management could equip the guide with some sort of microphone to talk about the trail or the scenery insted of making the trail ride so quiet. Other than that we all enjoyed it very much.
Our family was camping at FDR this week. My husband suggested that we go for a ride wight the kids. I called, and right from the start they were very friendly and helpful. We went riding at 11 in the morning. It was a beautiful day to be out, even in the winter. We took a ride to the overlook for a beautiful view. The entire staff were kind and helpful. Check them out!
A friend and I decided to do something totally different and decided to go horse back riding since we were going to be in the area of FDR State forest. We made reservations for a beginners guided ride ahead of time. The stable staff were at all times friendly, courteous and professional. The facilities are well kept and the horses were all appropriate for the group. The group consistent in about 10 people of all ages and experiences. Basic instructions were given before mounting and the staff perfectly match horses with riders. The matching was done based on experience and body type. Three guides were with the group along the trails and they took turns explaining about the horses, and the trails. The weather was perfect, the experience was wonderful and the cost was reasonable. I will definitely return but next time for a longer ride. It was a lot of FUN!
