Once you get off the cable car, or get to the end of the hiking trail (4 hours vs. 20 minute cable car ride), there is a good map of all the things to see along the walk. Very enjoyable.
We hired a taxi for the day , 4 or us and the driver was our guide too. You do not need a driver and a guide. Too much money. $50 for the day and a nice tip. Turkee was our drivers name and he was great. He took us to Mount Isabel de Torres and there is a nice restaurant theretoo. The rains came and we waited it out in the restaurant. Great trip ...
Nice place for a day trip. Go early in the day while visibility is still good. We took this as part of a tour that included a city tour and it was perfect as all transportation and entrance fees were included for one price ($35). Book with Tours by James
We really enjoyed our day..$50 each and we got a bus tour of the city and some attractions...Amber & Larimar Shop..Amber Museum..Fort,,Brugal Rum factory..Lunch..And of course a wonderful ride up the cable car to see Christ The Redeemer statue..The top of Mount Isabel de Torres was in a cloud..THe only cloyud in the beautiful blue sky day..It seem to be anchored over the mountatin..AA bit dissapointed that we couldnt see the view from the mountain..But at the same time it was a very unique experience as well..We could see fine in the cloud around us..We just couldnt see the ground below..Maybe next time..It really was worth the trip up..The view on the cable car was beautiful..We bought a couple of bottles of rum at the Brugal factory..Thinking we would get more at duty free on the way home..If you want rum don't wait..The Brugal factory is the cheapest place to buy rum by far..We didnt buy any at the Duty Free..WE highly recommend this tour..Ultimately you want the cable car ride which you can get to by cab..But its always good to get out and see the city...Even if you arent thrilled about the stops..Cheapest Rum and Cable car make it worthwhile..
You can see it from everywhere. Just don't go inside since all it has there is people selling crap, but they at least negotiate.
Beautiful park and garden like setting await those who venture to the top of Mount Isabel de Torres. On a clear day the views are stunning but even if the clouds roll in this place is worth a visit. A mixed pine and deciduous forest provide shade and stone walkways guide you through the area to a logoon, lookout points, a bridge, caves and more. It's really beautiful. Bird life was abundant with Hispaniolian Woodpecker taking front stage, conspicuous and vocal. Bathrooms were available at several locations. A word of caution about slippery paths. Wear shoes with good traction and walk carefully. I found the easiest walking on the pavement or the gravel trails. The stone and cement walkways were treacherous.
Ride the cable car or drive up, then get a picture with Jesus and enjoy the botanical gardens. A great place to spend a relaxing day out!
Pick your times to go up here as there is usually a long wait for cable car as it is a popular tourist attraction. Photographers up there taking photos with your own camera with christ the redeemer, ok but then you feel obliged to buy something from them
The long, scenic cable car ride is good view and the views are fantastic. There is also a very nice botanical gardens/walking path at the summit. Definitely the number one attraction in the whole Puerto Plata area.
Local men try to sell and bother you for photos for a bit of coin, but a tranquil escape with nice view of city, and paved paths to follow and walk along amongst trees and flora.
