Moreton Island (摩頓島) is the 3rd largest sand island in the world. It is located in northeast of Brisbane (布里斯本) on the other side of Moreton Bay. Moreton Island, with its inverted triangle shape, covers 186 km2 (45,962 acres). The Cape Mortern at north eastern tip of the island was named Cape Morton by Captain James Cook in May 1770, but Matthew Flinders wrongly used the Mortern on 31 July 1799 to name the island. Moreton Island is the home of the Morrgunpin people who have lived there for more than 2,000 years. 95% of the island is a National Park, and it takes only 75 minutes to get there by ferry from Brisbane.We booked the Northern Safari Tour with San Adventure Tour in advance to make sure we can visit the island as scheduled. We rent a car and parked in the parking lot in the Port of Brisbane where we embark the Moreton Island MICAT Ferry. Be sure to reserve some extra time before the boarding time because you might queue up at the parking lot. The ferry is a dual purpose ship with its lower deck reserved for cars and trucks. The top observation deck is where you can enjoy the view of the city, island, and wildlife. The middle Saloon/Cafe deck is a place where you can sit down and relax with drinks before you reach the Moreton Island. Our visit was not during the whale sighting season. Immediately after we disembarked the ferry, our 4WD was waiting for us, and we went to experience our first sand tobogganing. The instructor gave us some tips to control the direction when you slide down. It was fun and exciting. Our 4WD went through the forest on the sand road. Once, we got stuck by soft sand and needed the compact track loader to rescue us. The tour also brought us to North Point with its untouched surf, the Champagne Pools, and the glorious Honeymoon Bay. Continuing on the tour, we went to the oldest and still operating Cape Moreton lighthouse in Queensland; we had a magnificent view from the site. It was our first time experience of dipping ourselves in the waters of Blue Lagoon, which made us feel re-energized. We ended our trip where we disembarked the ferry. While waiting for the ferry, we saw many shipwrecks not too far away from the coastline. They were deliberately sunk to form a breakwater for small boats, also creating an amazing wreck dive and snorkel site to view the marine life and coral.Don’t forget to bring swimsuits and slippers with you. You will need them for sure.

If you want to get away from the rat race of life then if you are near Brisbane (Australia) then I would recommend a trip over to the paradise of Moreton Island.We were lucky to have relatives who had a place to let us stay at just set back from the beach.You'll need a 4x4 vehicle as there are no man made roads......just loads of sand!!Its a great place to hang and chill out at....but remember to take your own food and drink as prices can be high once you get there.We walked for miles on the deserted beaches and visited the Blue Lagoon, Champagne Falls,Lighthouse and Honeymoon Bay to name a few.The crossing on the ferry was about $50 per person return fare booked online if you are on foot...you can hire a vehicle once there if you do not take your own.The ferry takes just on 2 hours and is a lovely cruise.We found this a place to get away from the TV and radio etc and just sit about and talk and read and drink copious amounts of alcohol with a bbq going on in the background.Remember to take a torch or two its very dark at night!!!

We visited Moreton Island as part of a P&O cruise. What a glorious day we had. Moreton Island is as good as any of the Whitsunday / Pacific Islands. Tangalooma Resort is well-appointed with great service and a very welcome icy-cold beer!We booked a para-sailing adventure and I would highly recommend it. Not at all the scary event I suspected - it was safe and peaceful floating in the sky. We then walked the few hundred metres from the resort to the wrecks. Earlier in the day there had been a very strong current around the wrecks, as is common, and several people required assistance. However, when we went at low tide in the early afternoon, everything was great. We swam out and around the wrekcs without incident. Organised snorkelling tours can take you to the wrecks via boat, but it is easily accessible by land and only a short swim out. A thoroughly enjoyable day, with pristine waters and squeaky clean sand. We'll be back!

We sailed to Moreton and moored there for New Years and it was fantastic! Beautiful for snorkelling, rowing or swimming and soaking up the sun!

我本来非常期待摩顿岛，但是1。自助餐不是很好吃。2。我们预定了滑沙的行程，但是接驳车误点一小时，没有任何道歉和补偿。3。从饭店出发的时候飘雨，他们说到沙漠那里才能确定能不能玩，坐上一台大巴士后，一路摇晃非常厉害，到了沙地，天气很好，绝对是可以玩滑沙，但是司机从头到尾都没有让大家下车，车上有很多人睡着，因为无聊又很晃，什么事情都没发生就结束这个活动了。4。接着晚上的喂食海豚，他给我们一人一只约八公分的咸鱼，拍照和喂食只花了五秒就结束。整个行程花了我们两个人一万二千元。非常不值得。同行认识的新加坡人，也觉得糟透了!

We went on a 4 day P&O cruise from Sydney to Morton Island and had a 1 day stop over on the Island. We only had a few hours on The island as the ship had trouble lowering the ramps to the shuttle boats transport us onto the island. Once on the island we had lunch as it was now 1pm ,all the eateries along the beach were packed and you had to line up 20-30 deep ( aprox 25 min to get served) We hade fish chips -Wedges -Pizza etc between six of us and the food was just ok . The prices about $9 wedges - $15 fish chips about $15 pizza. We then finally grabbed the snorkel and goggles and headed up the beach approx. 400 mtrs to the ship wrecks and did some snorkelling for about an hour an half until a big electrical storm came through an didn't want to tempt fate around metal ship wrecks so we got out and headed back.The snorkel around the ship wrecks was great with plenty of fish in and around the ships. I even had a turtle about 2.5 feet round swim beneath me 4-6 feet bellow. Didn't get long enough to se much else but the wrecks were great.
