Worth the stop. The carousel is not horses but all local animals painted by local artists...beautiful!!! Take the kids or just stop by to admire the beautiful painted creatures.
Had a great time with the whole family here. Rent it for the day to get the best value! We had children from the age of one year to 11 years and adults of all ages. Great meeting space also, and they allow you to bring your own food for lunch or a party. A great ADK landmark.
Very affordable family fun. The Carousel ride, games, costumes and entertainment can occupy a family for much longer than just the length of the ride. Plus just enough snacks to satisfy. Great staff. They could be tour guided for the tri-lakes.
Beautiful carousel with carved animals - animals that are common in the Adirondacks. They are beautifully done, the artwork at the top is beautiful and we took my husband's aunt there this summer and she was in awe of it. There's a place for all riders - atop a bear or deer or even our infamous black fly. There's a boat with seat for and some other benches for those who just want to enjoy the ride. The staff is great, helpful, the building is beautiful and there is a playground in the part in which it is located. I highly recommend a visit here even if just to see the various animals. There is a fee for riding, but just to enjoy watching is free!
Even though it's a little more than that ($2.50 for a ride, I think). But this gem represents community at its best: totally a volunteer effort drawing on local artistic and philanthropic contributions of time, talent, and treasure; foresight in city planning to create a wonder in an otherwise off-the-track (literally) city park; the sheer delight of riding a working carousel that does nothing more than go around and up and down, and that smoothly; locally provided art and carvings of fanciful animals to ride on, reasonable cost and quick joy. Young at heart and young in mind will all enjoy this wonderful attraction.
The carousel is a work of art. The paintings, carousel animals, and room are very well done. The space is great and there is an excellent play area outside that my son enjoys as much as the carousel rides.
This is a beautiful carousel with very unique animals found in the Adirondacks. there are no seat belts but that is fine for most. i believe there is a lower age limit although small children could ride on the boat which just has a bench seat. It looked like it was also handicapped accessible with a ramp up to the carousel and a large space in the boat. It is beautiful and worth a visit just to see the artwork.
Really cute old time carousel. Not much there, a corner lot. Little parking. Worth stopping into see.
We stopped here for a quick visit while in Saranac Lake. Having grown up in Broome County NY where carousels were donated by the Endicott Johnson Shoe factory to the various towns in the area, I have a special fondness of the rides. Although this was much smaller than a "classic" Merry-Go-Round, the carvings were perfect for the location. The small playground would also delight young children and provide a quick, and inexpensive way to expend some pent up energy of young travelers. Well done Saranac Lake!
True craftsmanship in these handcarved animals. A long time in coming but so worth all the time and hard work creating this machine.Once around is never enough as it is fun for both children and adults. Well worth the visit and the staff is wonderful. Plan a birthday party there for the kids.
