This is a must see. Beautiful water and friendly service. A little too commercialized from my last visit.
You have to get a boat out here from the main beach. Buying the ticket was easy and it's a quick ride across. We were dropped off at the island dock, but then it became a bit complicated because we don't speak spanish. The boat company representative talked a lot about food and drinks available and things to do. Turns out you have to go back in the same boat you came out in so we had to wait in a particular location around 3pm and the representative led us back to the boat, which was not parked at the dock. The island itself is fun you can have drinks we ate some fried fish with plantains and rice. The palm trees mean the island is shaded and sheltered from the wind. The sea was a bit rough.
Talking about beauty, Johnny Cay is perfect! Cristal clear water, white sand, lot of coconut trees and a beautiful view around the island and underwater, practicing snorkel. To arrive there, you can take a boat that arrives very fast.Talking about structure, everything on the island is very simple. There aren't good bathrooms and the food is prepared in small and simple bars. I recommend take your own food if you don't like places like that.
The beach was great, but do get here early! Beach chairs were almost a must when we went due to the high rolling waves, which were fun to play in.Leaving the island was utterly chaos since no one knew which boat to get on, in the end we got on a boat from another company and gave the captain some cash as a thank you. Bring water and sunscreen. You can buy food and alcohol on the island. Hang out for a few hours and enjoy the nice ocean!
A true paradise island! Definitely choose the option of staying until 2/3pm to enjoy the fresh fish lunch, best food, best beach... truly amazing!
Absolutely loved the opportunity to photograph a range of animals in the wild including lots of iguanas, lizards, birds and sealife. The main beach area for sea access has very big and strong waves - so I wouldn't suggest letting young children swim there.Johnny Cay was my favourite part of my entire holiday to San Andres! We pitched up a little spot on a quiet beach on the other side of the island and never wanted to leave!
If you go on the weekend expect tons of people!!!! and fyi skip el aquario and haynes cay. it is a joke, and way too many people for those tiny islands. just go to johnny. very nice beachi recommend going during the week or check reviews for during the week. other option is to rent a private boat and go late. after 4pm. personally go to provencia another island 30 min by plane away if you want relaxation and less tourism and crowdsalways bring a small package of kleenex for your bathroom trips. it has saved me many times. think outhouse but worse. yes they cost to use. bring water shoes. and if you want your own snorkel, i dont recommend it unless you go to acuario cay
Not impressed with this tour at all. The boat took us out to Johnny Cay, but there were too many people there for my taste. Would not recommend this if you want to enjoy and relax.
