The tasting prices were very reasonable. We love wine and thought the wine was average. The dining areas are very nice. Food was decent. The vineyards are lovely. A wedding was taking place while we were there. A great place for a party.
A friend took me here for my birthday and lunch--what a surprise to find such a nice place in the countryside of Stafford. The winetasting was really revealing of some fine wines being made in Virginia- we followed with a delightful lunch of soup and salad and dessert--all well made with an attentive staff- It would be a fun place to spend all day as some were doing in the lovely dining room-they have a buyers club that includes frequent tastings and good discounts--they made two new members that day!!
This is the second year we've gone to the winery for New Year's Eve. This year was a Studio 54 theme, and it was a lot of fun. Most of the attendee's dressed up in an impressive variety of outfits. The food was excellent and of course they always have a great wine selection. I would definitely recommend a visit.
Good food paired with their wines, the staff can be helpful. I recommend as an appetizer the cheese plate.
I reserved the Wine Cave for a private tour/tasting event for 30 people. The atmosphere was lovely, our guide/server was informative and nice, and the food tasty. I look forward to doing the same type of event again in the future.
We live close to this winery and visit wineries weekly, but tend to drive to other areas (from Nelson to Loudon, heavy on Fauquier) because we like to get away from the "Northern VA weekend winery crowds" and those who go with large groups, thinking the wineries want that much business all at once, and those who go to simply pay the basic tasting fee, taste and leave. We always go with the intent of giving all their wines a try, listening to how they make them, learning their wine-making process and more about their winery and buying a bottle to sit and sip and if we like it, then buy more to take home. This particular winery seems to be able to accommodate both with more emphasis on the Northern VA crowds. Their tasting fee is typical for the Northern VA area, $10, but they do offer a LOT of wines to taste with grapes from many areas in VA, as well as Spain and Italy, which was a treat. The server we got when we sat with our group and enjoyed their food and wine was great. He was attentive, personable and always smiling. The lady who gave us the tasting was very friendly. The check-out clerk at the front was horrible. She seems rushed and didn't provide very good service to us nor anyone else we witnessed her helping. Be nice if any of the other staff could check out customers, rather than having the bottle neck up front, where people are also entering and also trying to pay for tastings, upon entering.Overall the experience was nice, but we prefer a more laid back atmosphere. We've been to wineries that are often VERY busy, like Delaplane Cellars who do a GREAT job managing the surge in customers and still provide exceptional service all the way around. We prefer to stick with those, as we also feel they concentrate on wine and not having a venue to attract crowds and having weddings and events.Oh, not allowing outside food is a bad policy too! Fortunately this wasn't a problem for us, as we didn't bring any. But many winery patrons do and should be able to.
I have gone here for years every time I visit from Houston, Tx. This time the guy who facilitated the tasting, Johnny, he was very informative and friendly. I learned things I had never heard of before. Potomac Point is the only vineyard I've been to where I like EVERY single wine!! Great place to visit!
Potomac Point Winery is hidden away off the beaten path just south of Quantico Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA. This Tuscan style building and vineyard were created in a clearing carved out of a hardwood forest so it is surrounded by mature hardwood trees. A beautiful setting and very popular. The wines are respectable and comparably priced to other local wineries. Their dinner menu changes periodically and on our last visit we found that they had gone to tapas style entrees. The food was good and we enjoyed ourselves. On previous visits the summer weather was pleasant and we sat at tables in the outdoor courtyard where there is often live music and people can also bring their dogs. On our most recent visit, it happened to be a rainy evening so we had to eat indoors in the pub where we had not eaten before. The pub is just that, a pub for enjoying tapas and beverages. That said, the seating is not particularly suited for the typical dinner style eating we were expecting. We were seated in overstuffed couches and our plates were set on a low coffee table so it was not dinning experience we wanted to show our out of town guests. If you want a sit down dinner, wait until you can assure you will be able to eat in the outdoor courtyard.
While visiting friends who live in Fredericksburg, we decided to do the wine tasting and have lunch at their restaurant. Excellent value for the tasting...bottles were more expensive than we expected. Lunch was very good, and the person providing the tastings was very knowledgeable. I would do the tasting again, but it would be nice if they had something other than stale crackers to "cleanse" the palate.
Really great winery. The staff has always been friendly, courteous, & professional. They offer various types of tastings & the wine is wonderful; sure to please a variety of palates. They do offer stainless barreled wines (my preference) & there are a couple of different wine clubs available as well. The scenery is beautiful and food is very good. As with most Virginia wineries, they are a little more expensive than the larger conglomerates, but worth the extra money. They have recently started offering flavored olive oils; standards like rosemary flavored & a wonderful blood orange flavor, which are both fabulous!
