The wines were okay but overall not a stellar experience. They weren't very crowded, and yet we had numerous servers stopping by at random times to pour our next taste, rather than one person that stayed with us during our tasting.
These wines are amazing and the tasting room owners are fantastic. Make sure you stop here and experience one of the best tasting experiences in Solvang.
We had a great tasting here, our host took a ton of time with us to walk through their wines and we loved them. My wife and I had two different flights, one white one mixed each had 6 wines and was only $8. The Riesling and the Malbec were our top picks. Enjoy!
Was not impressed with this place at all. We sampled their whites and they lacked aroma and body to all of their wines. I don't think I would go back to try their reds if their whites were so bland.
Husband and I wandered around Solvang with our dog. We wanted to pop into some tasting rooms and we've had L&L wines before so we asked if we could come in with our dog. YES! The wines were fantastic and we took home a few bottles. It was a quiet day so it was just us and one other couple. They also have a cute gift area.
I was previously familiar with this winery but it is generally not available at home. So, after tasting a few varieties, I joined the wine club and will now have it available to me year round.
After tasting in Tocatta, we were directed to Lucas and Lewellen, the sister tasting room. Plus the half off tasting fee discount helped too! It's a very nice room with standing bar, friendly faces and great conversation. Friday, April 11, there was a nice gentleman who was pouring our tastings-wish I remembered his name! Anyways, he was very kind and made my bf and I feel at home. We're younger and kinda stick out (so we noticed at every tasting room) and he was very accommodating to our experience and I appreciate when I can strike a great genuine conversation with a complete stranger. Of course the wine is great, more California style type of wines-ranging from their delicious sparkling wine to robust reds (cabs) and delicious dessert (port?) offered. Like Tocatta, I like the organization of tasting. For a newcomer, it's a easy guideline to sample something you particularly favor: reds, whites, or "Something fun." Love it here. Thanks and will recommend AND come back :)
This place was gorgeous. The pours were generous and thats why we ended up buying bottles. The wine was to die for. We went on a tuesday afternoon so there wasnt a crowd.
While doing the wine walk in Solvang, we made Lucas & Lewellen our first stop. It was a Thursday afternoon and not busy (two other couples tasting). Our server poured the first taste, gave some perfunctory comments in response to our interest in the winery, then disappeared to the back, came back and helped the other employee's customers, did some paperwork, went to the back and eventually came back and poured our second tasting. While we found the wines pleasant, we found the service off putting and spent our wine dollars elsewhere.
After hitting a few of the other tasting rooms on Copenhagen Drive and being a bit disappointed by them, we stopped at Lucas & Lewellen and found what we were looking for! The ambiance was very nice and very inviting. The sommeliers were wonderfully friendly and knowledgable. One of the things I liked best about this tasting room was the fact that you could pick from one of four different flights of wine - a mix of reds and whites, all reds, all whites, or "fun wines" (sparkling and dessert wines). My sister really enjoyed both the pinot noirs, and I loved their Moscato, Viognier and Port. The mixed and white flights were only $8/ person, which we found to be the least expensive of the tasting rooms. The red and "fun" flights were $12/person. Of the six tasting rooms we stopped in (most we just took a look at because they were either too expensive (up to $16 per person) or didn't have the types of wines were interested in), Lucas & Lewellen was BY FAR, the one we liked the best. Don't miss this one!
