The whale tours, the only reason to visit Tadoussac, give no time to the Belugas (white whales). This is by far the easiest place in the world to see Belugas, but the tour boats just sail by them. You'll see more Belugas from shore. The whale boats go for the few Humpbacks, Fins and Blues. Most of these large whales don't arrive until June 21. You'll see a lot more of the large whales out of Boston or Monterey.
We could see the whales up close and the boat ride was smooth and the food onboard was good too we where able to get a whole bunch of photos of all the whales and the scenery is breathless and the air so pure.Nothing to complain about all was good
The best ways to do this is by getting out of the bay and doing it from further in. You might be wasting a little time just by getting out. There are excursions that take you from other palces than TardoussacNow, if you want to see whales, you can do it already from shore as many come to eat and you can avoid paying this tour. But I recommend you this because you'll be closer to some big whales. You could even get the chance to see the blue massive whales. Not common, but it can happen. It's a little pricey, but worth to do it at least once. Definitely recommend you to take the Zodiac. The big boats are slow and really crowed. I woulnd't do it.You don't get wet, so bring your cameras and take intervals for watching and others to take photos. If you do both, you won't enjoy neither.
We rented a car in Quebec City and drove to Tadoussac for whale watching. We went in a 12 person Zodiac with Otis Excursions (only 6 on our zodiac) and were fortunate to see many different species of whales. Our first sighting was a beluga whale; truly a treat. The warm jackets with life preservers inside were warm and in good shape. The whole experience with Otis was professional, courteous and well done.
2 h ride from Quebec city on the roads of gorgeous ChARLEVOIX REGION . You can choose smaller boats -- more excitement -- more thrill, or go with the big boats . Departures from Baie St Catherine or another company from St Simeon. They know the park , you will see whales guaranteed. Was there already twice . Stop at any restaurant and enjoy the local cuisine -- fishes from St Laurent and NOT poutine , please !
We went whale watching in a zodiac and were fortunate to see a Minke and a couple of Humpbacks. We were able to approach to about 100 metres and therefore had a reasonable view of the whales on the surface. As it is a feeding ground and not a migration they spend the majority of the time underwater, and it was towards the end of the season. The bear watching was about 8 kilometres north of Tadoussac on the 138 and though we had about 90 minutes to wait sitting in a hide, we were treated to three black bears making an appearance at a distance of about 75 metres. They ate some of the prepared food over about 30 minutes before leaving. Unfortunately the whole commentary was conducted in French, with no English at all.
