I have hiked to paria falls several times in the years gone by. I have always enjoyed the hike plus the scenary at the beach and falls. Highly recommended for any nature lovers. A friend of mines did mention a while back on his hike in that area that the beach was littered with garbage. That was depressing news and we should all aim to carry back our garbage during any outdoor excursions.Nevertheless, I will return and experience this memorable location.
The end justifies the means - is so true with this siteI would not recommend for kids or unfit persons or anyone with injuries. I was going to say elderly folk, but my guide was a resident of the area and appeared to be a senior citizen and made the trip with ease.Make sure and wear comfortable clothes, good shoes, a change of clothes, towel, water, snacks, mosquito repellant, and some muscle rub :)You walk though virgin jungle to get to the site, pass through streams, see wildlife in abundance.I could see myself living in this part of Trinidad - so clean and beautiful.
The hike to get to Paria is always quite challenging, regardless of whether it's been a hot sunny day or a typical day in the rainy season. However, when you get to the end and see the amazing cascading crystal clear water, it makes the suffering (maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit!) all the more worth it! This is a definite must-see for any nature enthusiast (or not!) who wants to enjoy Trinidad's natural beauty!
The Paria hike is a must. If you want to experience the true Carib, make the hike. Park by the bridge just past Blanchisseuse Beach and head out from there. Past the bridge, the road gets rough quickly, so unless you have 4WD and a strudy vehicle you don't mind banging around, just park and hike it. After a while, the road ends at a small beach and the trail begins. Was able to make the hike one-way in 90 minutes, but that was at a brisk pace. Most people make it in about 2.5-3 hours. Take your time, it's not a race and there's alot of beautiful scenery to be seen. Contrary to what people will tell you, you don't need a guide. However, it's safer to travel in groups of at least 4 or more. Don't do it alone, not so much for the security issue as the safety issue. There are some narrow parts on the trail and if you get hurt/fall, you'll need help quick. Not recommended for small children either. Strollers won't make the bike. Bring water, food, comfortable shoes, and even a small med kit might be a good idea. The hike is pretty spectacular as you see the ocean come in and out of view as you hike up steep trails and back down to the streambeds. When you finally reach Paria beach, the trail descends and you come out from the treeline to be greeted by white sands and beautiful views. It's the Carib of old. No resorts, hotels, or any other signs of civilization on the beach. About 3/4 of the walk down the beach, you'll find the Paria falls trail. It's about a 10 minute walk (very easy compared to the Paria trail) to the falls. Bathing in the cool waters is a welcome break from the rigorous hike. If you're in Trinidad, this is something worth doing. You'll remember it. People of all ages and fitness levels make the hike, just do so at your own pace and you should be fine. Many arrange for boats from Blanchisseuse to meet them at Paria beach to hitch a ride back after visiting the beach and falls. Worth considering if you think you'll prefer making the hike just one way. Be advised though, when you reach Paria Beach (including the falls), there are NO food stalls, vendors, or bathroom/changing facilities of any kind. Bring your own gear (change of clothes, towel, insect repellent, food, WATER, sunscreen, etc.).
This waterfall is wonderful. The water is cold like ice but still nice. It is a long trek to that waterful but it is very scenic.
If you really love nature and enjoy a challenging hike the paria waterfall is a must. Great for pictures. Enjoyable trek. You can stop at paria bay and take in the wonderful atmosphere. This is my most favorite hike and one of the most beautiful wonders of my home land.
Paria waterfall Hike is a long (9 mile round trip) but rewarding hike. The track starts where the north coast road ends. A jeep trail with a few houses soons gives way to an old bench trail. There are about 5 or 6 valleys which need to be crossed. The total elevation gain and lost is about 1600ft. The walk along Paria beach can be difficult as the sand is poorly consolidated with no shade. The waterfall and plunge pool is very beautiful and very rewarding.
Make sure you set off early. Have you been exercising before? Please do. This is not a hike for the timid, although kids love it for the challenge. Either do the longer walk through the hills from Brasso Seco, or the up and down hill climb along the water;s edge from Blanchisseuse river ( one of the few " cable bridges". You could be tired when you arrive, so take a good rest, a bath and many pictures like the ones on this site. If you go through the hills make sure you leave by 2.30..Don't let night find you still in the hills..it is really dark at night. A real life adventure!!
Went there 14yrs ago! From reading recent posts, it seems that it is still the magical hike we took then. A good 2h walk, solid, but with endless breathtaking spots, and a dream bath in the crystal clear water below the fall!As mentioned by others... BE CAREFUL... You will not come back from there the same person you were before you left, and may not even want to come back !I have to admit, I never shared that experience until now because I was afraid that this spot get spoiled by too many visitors... Selfish, I know, but hey... Such pieces of paradise on earth are very rare nowadays! So please respect it, and if you bring anything with you for the hike, take it back with you as well....
Magnifique cascade dans une foret loin de toute habitation! Nous avons pris un bateau qui nous a déposé sur une belle plage. De la nous avons marché 20 min jusqu'a la cascade.
