We made this a quick trip since it was -15, but it was simply beautiful! We opted for a short hike to the shore where you can see the light house in the distance. So pretty in the winter!
Informational, interesting and beautiful. We stopped here for a short time on the first day of our 15 day road trip. Even though this is a mere 3 hours from our home, it was one of our favorite stops on our 4,000+ mile road trip.
I had reservations about stopping here, because frankly we are NOT big history buffs, and our two young boys even less so. But we had a WONDERFUL stay, really one of our favorite camping experiences on the North Shore. We opted for a backpacking site which was right on the lake shore and our kids spent hours and hours just climbing around on the rocks, very beautiful, very secluded! Long hike in, but worth it. We also enjoyed pebble beach and were even lucky enough to be visiting during the narrow window of time when it's possible to explore the tiny adjacent island (warning, though, you cross on foot and the water was breathtakingly frigid, even in the height of summer. Take caution if you cross with young kids!!!!!!!) The lighthouse was not a great value for us, but it was fun to explore and I guess it didn't bother us to drop a few dollars in the interest of preservation.
The lighthouse area was interesting, as well as being able to walk around the rocky shore. Kids enjoyed stacking rocks.
Tour well worth the money. Free movie inside center that told history and was wonderful. Grounds just beautiful and views incredible.
The view is spectacular. The lighthouse is full of history; it's easy to imagine what it must have been like living and working there. The walk down to the shore is a must!
This park is far too commercial for a state park, and the cost of going out to the light house itself is far too high. I'll take a pass the next time I'm up that way.
The best part of the park is actually the series of lakeside and bluff trails that lead south, which afford you great views back of the lighthouse perched on the cliff's edge.
This is a beautiful park with beautiful views of Lake Superior and Split Rock Light. We were just traveling through so we didn't have much time to spend. We have it on the list to return and spend more time.
This is a great lighthouse. The view over Lake Superior is awesome. There are trails along the north shore that afford unbelievable views of the light. .
