Combine a trip to Jakes, Rim Rock, the upper reservoir and dine atthe Wolf Run Marina, it will be a great day for sure!
Short drive from Warren or Bradford and a great place for a family picnic. Nestled in the Allegheny National Forest and offers excellent views of the Kinzua Dam and reservoir. Good place for hiking and biking. Make a day of it and combine with Rimrock nearby. Forgot your lunch. Docksiders at Wolf Run Marina or Bob's Trading Post for lunch or dinner. Elaine
We stopped off here on our way to Kinzua bridge. The views are lovely and if you go in the Fall you won't be disappointed
I've walked this area many times. It is great for picture taking, picnics, and just taking a short walk. Wear the bug spray, though, as the mosquitos are grown hungry in Pennsylvania.
A great place to take the family to hike around the huge stones and see great views of the Dam and Allegheny River.
Good little hike to overlook the reservoir during the fall colors. A nice drive on the way up. Worth the view!!
Jake's Rocks has two overlooks over the Allegheny Reservoir. The ecosystem here is a little different than most of the Allegheny National Forest - it's one of the few places you can see pitch pine, for one thing. Also fragrant azalea in the spring, sassafras, mountain laurel, painted trillium, and other neat plants. It is a good place to spot eagles and turkey vultures, and also to see nice woodland birds such as chestnut sided warblers and to hear the songs of thrushes. On the way to or from the overlook there is another view of the bridge that is Very pretty.
Great place that is easy to get to. Lots of beautiful views from several vistas. The last one on the way out is accessible by car. The other two are a short walk from the parking areas. Lots of rocks to climb around on and areas to hike around a bit.
If you're in the area, this is a lovely scenic overlook, with great views of the mountains around the Allegheny Reservoir, the reservoir, and the dam. I am afraid of heights, but the access to see the overlook was back far enough that there was no issue.
At first we were disappointed, as the full-grown hindered us to see the Kinzua Dam. Then one day we noticed a path that leads down to a path. We found huge cliffs and rock formation out of this world! It was fun exploring around these. A worthwhile trip.
