The staff is knowledgeable and friendly . They were very helpful and extended the kindness to our family . I really cannot praise them enough and would recommend if in the area go there and you won't be disappointed .
This is a very nice display of American GLass. I learned alot about the Glass industry in WV that I had not know, even though I grew up in this area. I am glad I did not take my children, that would have been a disaster! Be sure to use street parking r park at the public parking across from the Asylum and walk (is is very close) Do not park at the bank across the street from the Glass Museum
From other reviews, I expected a more professional place.. They do have a huge collection, but they were not good at telling the story of WV glass making. It's a bit of a hodge podge. Nice volunteers.
We thoroughly enjoyed the museum - brought back some memories too - just filled with glass pieces from all over the United States - also has a marble collection - each piece was grouped with a similar piece from a different manufacture - just so much to see - we are not collectors but were in awe of some many pieces and nicely displayed too
Due to a completely volunteer staff, this facility is grossly undermanned but incredibly well stocked with West Virginia glass. For those uninformed, the inventory is extensive with most in storage for rotating displays; the place may appear to be only full of glass, but for the collector, historian or tradesman - this is a treasure trove of hand blown, artesian and early industrial glass from the long tradition of WV glass blowers. The marble section is full of rare offerings. It's a shame that the state government is not on board to take this collection of donated collections from WV benefactors to give it the home and attention it deserves. Free Admission - limited hours.
This place is amazing. It has grown exponentially since my last visit a decade ago. It's cool because they not only have gorgeous decorative glass--they also have displays of glassmaking equipment and utilitarian glass. And it's free--what more can you ask for?
In a recent visit to the area we decided to stop in the museum. We are not into glass but we did walk all through the museum. All the cases were clean and bright. We were amazed at all the places where glass had been made. We even learned of some places that had once been near our hometown area. If you are not passionate about glass I wouldn't make a special trip here. If you are in the area and looking for something to do it was interesting.
There is something for every glass collector to enjoy. We were there for a weekend to help ID a donation of oil lamps...over 2000 of them! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and everyone is made to feel welcome when they walk in the door. And it is FREE.
If you are in town for something else, it's something to do. Tons of glass to browse through, but I wasn't overly impressed. We did get a greeting right away from the person working, but when checking out we had to hear about her horrible day and some personal issues. I definitely would not go out of my way to make the trip.
We had not been to Weston in quite a few years. The little glass museum has grown into a well lit, clean and charming tribute to the glass industry that has been so important to West Virginia. A great research room and gift shop round out the offerings. Be sure to sign up to be a member.
