Wonderful, and wild, but lots of bugs. The day was hot, so we were too busy slapping and scratching.

The peaceful quite is the most rewarding joy that you can find anywhere but after a short time you begin to realize that being alone can be very tough when you are a people person. This si a riparian area along the Kern River, going from forest stream to wetland, inhabited by an amazing variety of flora and fauna. Cottonwoods to cat-tails, insects to large herons and turkey vultures plus many furry friends - rabbits, squirrels, deer and - hard to catch - coyote and mountain lion now and then. It gets few visitors most of the time, so opportunities to see wildlife and litter-free flora are good.

Beautiful, easy hiking, very good for families. Massive, ancient cottonwood trees, grasslands, and a nice visitor center.
