Lovingly restored and sporting enthusiastic, knowledgeable volunteer docents and a FASCINATING history, be sure to get a least a dockside of this vessel while you are at Jack London Square!
We visited the USS Potomac with our homeowners group awhile back and absolutely enjoyed our cruise on SF Bay while absorbing history first hand - such a wonderful experience + every time we are at Jack London Square, we can stop by & see it again & again :)
This yacht is located at Jack London Square (a jewel of Oakland). The yacht was President F.D. Roosevelt's during his presidency. It has been completely refurbished and is open for tours and can be booked for bay trips. We have gone on it for special occasions and it is an historical and fun thing to do. The visitor's center has information about the yacht and its colorful past.
Truth be told, I'm a long-time docent on this ship (15 years), so I'm a bit biased. We've hosted people from all over the US and, in fact, have had many visitors from almost every country in the world, and everyone gets something out of it.
We went out on the USS Potomac summer of 2013 to see the America's Cup races. Docents were on board to show us the boat and take us on the tour. It was a very nice event with catered food and wine and other beverages. The America's Cup Race was thrilling to see from the USS Potomac. The USS Potomac was the floating White House of American President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Prior to going out on the boat we visited the vistor center and watched some interesting videos. We parked in a nearby parking garage for the time we were on the boat.
Take this opportunity to see what the inside of a presidential yacht looks like. The ship is in good shape and has a great story to tell. Fun for the whole family.
If you are interested in presidential history this is a great visit. Even the children will enjoy it. See a video and then tour the ship. I would like to go back some day and take a cruse.
Restored presidential yacht of FDR, an awesome boat and great ride. We went over to Angel Island and back, great water views of Oakland and San Francisco, and more cozy that a big ferry.
One can do nothing but learn and appreciate the views from here as well ..close by also is the lightship Relief and that is also a good learning spot took my grand son when only three here years ago (8 Now) time to take him back so he can learn more and keep history fun...both can be visited in one easy day..i love the photo spot as well and people watching too..
The USS Potomac is a fun boat to walk around and hear tales of FDR days aboard. And taking a local cruise on the bay or to Sacto is even better.
